If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations.

The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond. Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking. For a small fee you can launch directly from the Sites shoreline.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

Due to the possibility of Site flooding all units must have a tow vehicle on site overnight. There may be restrictions on pitch availability and use of awnings. If you have more than one car or are visiting the site you may be asked to park off-site.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available.

Eat Local

There is a farmers' market in Keswick on Thursdays and Saturdays.

This was the third visit this year. The weather was dry, but cold especially at night. Delightful for late November. The team of wardens were very friendly and helpful, and always polite. Whilst the site was not full, I was pleasantly surprised that the toilet block was always spotless whenever I visited and then I found one of the wardens doing a quick clean a various times of the day, not just when the block undergoes its daily clean. It really makes a difference and it is appreciated. Thank you.

Up to the highest standards that the Club is known for.

Up to the highest standards that the Club is known for. Spotless toilet block although one was closed presumably fir winter. Clean grounds and good distribution of pitches. Main access lane could be better lit. Staff soft skills on the reception desk could have been better. I called in two days prior to see if pitches would be available as I only required one night. Having got that confirmed, I arrived on the Friday at 1145 to be bluntly advised that I could only book on from 1pm. Fair enough, rules are rules but there could have been leeway as I had indicated on the Wednesday that I would be working the Friday afternoon. Perhaps staff could have suggested a temporary solution but when asked they allowed me to park up in a holding area. I booked in that evening and the chap on the bike was very helpful and efficient. I work in the Lake District as a Mountainted Leader and can highly recommend the North Lakes as an outdoor venue for all ages.

if i have a complaint it would be that one set of toilets were closed and the one's that were open were on a steep incline and as i have breathing problems it was no easy task to get to them. also why can't you reserve a space our friend's got there before us and tried to get us together as they help us out with tasks but were told you can't reserve spaces even after explaining my problems the guy who led us to our space did his best for us
