If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations.

The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond. Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking. For a small fee you can launch directly from the Sites shoreline.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

Due to the possibility of Site flooding all units must have a tow vehicle on site overnight. There may be restrictions on pitch availability and use of awnings. If you have more than one car or are visiting the site you may be asked to park off-site.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available.

Eat Local

There is a farmers' market in Keswick on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Loved the site. So close to Keswick centre but on the Lake shore.

Loved the site. So close to Keswick centre but on the Lake shore. Able to swim in the Lake from the campsite although have to walk out a long before it's deep enough to swim. Facilities were all clean and fine. Only downside was irresponsible dog owners who didn't clean up after their dogs. Which was why I only gave cleanliness 3 stars. On one day I counted more than 15 piles around the children's play area. Maybe putting dog litter bins around or selling poo bags at the campsite would help. Also one women and her grown daughter throwing stones and hitting the swans and cygnets and letting her dogs loose and barking madly at them. Then threatening my wife and 8 year old daughter when they objected. Not the campsites fault but at the evening time there was no one available to complain to. Apart from that the campsite was lovely.

Had to book months in advance and with a minimum of five nights.

Had to book months in advance and with a minimum of five nights. Arrived early afternoon and shown to the only pitch available which was not suitable for our needs. Next day a number of pitches were available so we asked if we could move to another pitch.Wardens said we could not be moved due to "Operational Reasons" which was a disappointment for our holiday. Decided to only stay for two nights and move to a more friendly and useable site.

I spent a week at this beautiful site again this year. On this occasion we managed to get a lake view pitch which if you have had one will know how wonderful it is to wake in the morning and look out on the lake. The wardens are all very helpfull and professional and nothing is too much trouble so a big thanks to them. One thing that did shock me was that on 2 separate occasions I witnessed verbal abuse towards the wardens who had to turn people away for turning up to early. Please can the club make it a priority to highlight the arrival times in a more clear way on the website as it obviously some members are not taking note and the poor wardens who are at the sharp end take all the flack. That aside a great site great position and wonderful views keep up the good work
