A beautiful location, Keswick campsite is great for active campers.

If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations. The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond.

Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

Due to the possibility of Site flooding all units must have a tow vehicle on site overnight. There may be restrictions on pitch availability and use of awnings. If you have more than one car or are visiting the site you may be asked to park off-site.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available.

Eat Local

There is a farmers' market in Keswick on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Awesome site. Found the wardens to be very friendly and helpful.

Awesome site. Found the wardens to be very friendly and helpful. Facilities were kept spotless, although its hard to keep floors clean when muddy boots are forever traipsing in and out on wet days. Keswick town is a mere 2 minute walk with plenty of shops, pubs and attractions to suit all. Very dog friendly everywhere. Some lovely walks round Derwent water and good cycle routes. Most pubs/shops welcome dogs which is always a plus if your traveling companion happens to have four legs, a wet nose and a waggy tail. Only one downside..... we only booked 6 nights , oh well, next year we'll have to make it 2 weeks. Already looking forward to it.

The hard standing pitches have been improved and added to, but are too small for the total outfit, so you end up parking on the grass and with the awning hanging out onto the grass! Some of the showers were found to have dirty floors in the afternoons and this is down to dirty people and not the staff. The push button for the use of the showers is most unwelcome and we both found this to be a right pain. Also the lack of temperature adjustment leaves me having a shower that is far too hot and uncomfortable. The water/waste points for a site this size leaves a little to be desired. The wifi leaves a lot to be desired, as the constant messages for your PC repair are a distraction and the speed and sign up is slow compared to other caravan site. I like the site, the views are excellent, the wardens are good and will be back next year, but with all the improvements it still lacks the finishing touches for us, hence the less 5* ratings.
