Overview

Camp at our secluded site in Kent, the Garden of England.

Our Oldbury Hill Club campsite is located in an idyllic spot within Styants Wood, opposite the Iron Age fort of the same name in Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is a lovely open, all grass campsite. Pitches are sloping so chocks will be required.

The area is ideal for walkers. Two way-marked circular walks pass over Oldbury Camp, the large Iron Age Hill fort. The hill is now covered with woodland managed by the National Trust. You can also walk from the campsite to Ightham Mote, a medieval moated manor house with a 14-acre garden and restaurant.

It’s a short car journey to Knole, a National Trust run English country house set in a deer park; Penshurst Palace and Gardens; the National Trust run Chartwell, family home of Winston Churchill; the beautiful Emmetts Garden and Hever Castle and Gardens.

You can also visit London by train from Borough Green and Sevenoaks stations.

Access and Worth Noting

Savnav users please use Styants Bottom Road, not postcode.
Most pitches are sloping and chocks will be needed. TV reception now has good signal. Due to narrow access road, please do not arrive before 1pm. All campers must vacate by 12pm.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Eat Local

Chart Farm, five minutes' walk from site, sells venison, pork and beef. Farmers’ markets are held weekly in Shipbourne and fortnightly in Tunbridge Wells. Crown Point carvery/restaurant is recommended.

I thought of giving this site just one star, hoping to keep others away from this absolute gem.

I thought of giving this site just one star, hoping to keep others away from this absolute gem. Ok, it's not perfect - some of the pitches slope a bit (but I've known far worse), and the facilities blocks aren't the most up-to-date (though they are perfectly adequate, and spotless) but it IS perfect in its wooded seclusion, with those blocks hidden away in the trees, all looked after by the most welcoming and accommodating wardens you could hope to meet. If there were six stars available, this site would justify the lot.

Easy to get to - 500 m drive up a lane from the A25.

This review is for Oldbury Hill

Easy to get to - 500 m drive up a lane from the A25. (Previous reviews about lots of little, winding lanes are inaccurate-check the map before going to make sure you go in from the easy way). Friendly welcome & help with the gate upon arrival. I appreciated that the pitch wasnt allocated but we were able to have a look & discuss the merits of each location with the managers. Escorted to our pitch next to the playground for the benefit of our toddler. The site itself is extremely well kept. Neatly mowed, edges trimmed & no weeds anywhere & well tendered gardens. The amenities block was recessed in the trees making it unobtrusive which I think is thoughtful. It was always pristine- even at half an hour before designated cleaning time. They provided bricks for our disposable BBQ. The other campers were friendly & thoughtful towards fellow campers. There was a huge variety of people in, young couples, older couples, families with young children & some with teenagers. Everyone behaved courteously at all times. Would I go back? Absolutely.

Avoid top of field for your pitch as there can be a strong smell from cesspit.

This review is for Oldbury Hill

Avoid top of field for your pitch as there can be a strong smell from cesspit. One of the wardens was dour/unfriendly and especially made some non complimentary comments about foreign visitors which made us feel uncomfortable. Overall nice site but with urgent need for more facilities and updated ones. It's a long slog up from the bottom of the field to the woodland area where the facilities are. The padlock entry and exit everytime is a real pain. Can't it be open during the day or have an automatic barrier fitted-current time wasting method annoyed many campers. Would visit again but sadly not with any real enthusiasm which is a shame as it could be so much better.
