Hayfield

"In the walking centre of England"

If you enjoy walking, you will love our Club Site at Hayfield. At the foot of the Dark Peak area of the Peak District National Park, it is the ideal place for gentle strolls or more challenging climbs. A predominance of tents makes this a very special Site.

Every time I visit Hayfield I’m reminded of those heroes who took part in the Mass Trespass near here and kept the British countryside open for all of us to enjoy. - John Preston

Known as “the gateway to Kinder”, Hayfield is at the foot of the Kinder Massif, the southern-most point of the Pennine Chain.

The Peak District is famous for its walking. From Hayfield, follow the Sett Valley Trail or a take a ridge ramble up Lantern Pike.

The Blue John Cavern at Castleton holds eight varieties of Blue John Stone. The shop sells items made from the stone, handmade by local craftsmen.

Buxton is known for its waters and the Buxton Festival in July.

Chatsworth House is set in a 1,000 acre park and recently starred in the film Pride and Prejudice.

The Chestnut Centre Conservation Park is home to both otters and owls.

Animal Farm is a rare breeds centre and visitors can try dry-stone walling and panning for Blue John.

Holmfirth, the setting for the BBC’s Last of the Summer Wine, hosts a Folk Festival in the spring.

Dunge Valley Hidden Gardens feature rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias, acers and the blue poppy.

Lyme Park was originally a Tudor house until the Venetian Architect Leoni turned it into an Italianate palace in the early 18th Century. It has an adventure playground.

Because of planning restrictions in place to protect the National Park, unfortunately caravans cannot be accommodated on Site and there are no electric hook-ups.

Did You Know

The Club has been a champion of the right to access to the countryside. In 1932, Club members took an active part in the mass tresspass on Kinder Scout – a highly political act which forced the government to take public access seriously.

Worth Noting

Please note this site has standard pitches only (no electric hook-up or hardstanding).

Eat Local

The Site shop sells free-range eggs from a local farm and The Pack Horse has locally sourced meat on the menu.
