Quiet, superbly maintained grass site with delightful owners.

This review is for Stathe Bungalow Farm

Quiet, superbly maintained grass site with delightful owners. Ideal for dogs as it's completely enclosed, with dog walk to fishing lake. This site is a large grassy field, without the grass cuttings left to go everywhere. There is a clean toilet and shower block, with soap, shower gel and paper towels. Water and chemical disposal are easily accessible if the selfish do not park to block access! The whole area is fenced so dogs and children cannot wander far. Depending on where you park there are views across the farm. The Hectors are welcoming and local to the area. No matter where we visited nearby, when we mentioned where we were staying, there was real warmth as people knew them. The Parrett Trail is 200 yards away. We were lucky to sees cranes as we walked it. Nearby Langport has excellent walks. I cycled to Muchelney Abbey, well worth a visit. Don't miss the church. An enjoyable few hours was spent at the Willow and Wetlands Centre a few miles away at North Curry. Entrance is free, though it is only 4.50 to take a tour, learning about the history and current business. There are various walks to see the willow being grown. The whole place is an education, with chidren especially catered for. I will end with more about Roderick Hector, as he taught us so much about his stewardship of his land. He really does farm for nature, as the flowers he plants to encourage insects at the entrance to the campsite show. It was a privilege to spend time with him. Both he and his wife helped us to understand the enormity of the flood disasters, especially the most recent. If you want to experience a farm break in quiet surroundings in a quiet area, this is an ideal site.

We stayed on this site in a big self sufficient motorhome for nearly a month whilst we waited for our house purchase to complete. The site is well kept and we always found it easy to get on and off even when the weather wasn't great. There are brilliant views over the Somerset levels and across to Burrow Mump, and plenty of bunnies and other wildlife as well as cows to keep you entertained closer to home. There is a really pleasant village shop about a mile away as well as some good pubs, and Langport was an easy cycle for all other amenities. We enjoy cycling and really liked this site as it was easy to cycle as far afield as Taunton, Bridgewater and Ilminster so we could really explore the area. The Willows and wetlands centre is about 2 miles away and is a really interesting day out with a great cafe, as well as many local markets and events which were just starting up for the summer.
