Overview

Great site for exploring the pretty Cotswolds towns and their attractions.

Amid the honey-coloured villages of the Cotswolds is where you’ll find the Club’s charming Chipping Norton campsite. Tucked away off the beaten track, this campsite offers a mix of level and sloping pitches, surrounded by trees and dry stone walls.

If it’s peace and tranquillity you are after, this site delivers in spades. But it would a shame not to venture off site and explore the beauty of the Cotswolds. Hop in your car or catch the bus right outside the site and discover the charms of Chipping Norton itself, Chadlington, Charbury and Witney for starters.

No stay at Chipping Norton campsite should be without a visit to Stow on the Wold, Bourton-on-the- Water and Batsford. As well as brimming with charm, they boast an eclectic mix of family attractions including Birdland and a model village in Bourton. Batsford Arboretum and Hidcote Manor are also worth visiting.

Worth Noting

Most pitches are sloping so chocks will be required. The site has full recycling facilities.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Eat Local

There is a Farmers’ Market on the third Saturday of the month in Chipping Norton. Several farm shops in the area sell locally grown fruit and vegetables.

It is really not that well kept and not that well equipped. No facilities and limited water taps etc. Very expensive and we were overcharged.

Journey to site and its access was good.

This review is for Chipping Norton

Journey to site and its access was good. Even though the site was fairly full, we were given a choice of pitches and so we chose not to be right next to the busy road. Useful bus right next to site into Chipping Norton or Witney. Mop Fair on while we were there so rather noisy and disruptive in town. Enjoyed evening at Theatre in Chipping and also, meal at Spice of India restaurant. Good 3 mile circular walk to Rollright Stones from Little Rollright (lovely little church). Also, good meal at Faukland Arms pub at Great Tew. Aldi supermarket in Chipping not mentioned in Site Information Room. Nice lunch in Stow at Lucy's Tea Rooms and interesting shops. Lovely day in Oxford - used Park and Ride which was a bit confusing due to paying for car park and also on bus! Did 3 mile town walk out of AA Walk Book to see the sights. Lunch at cafe in covered market. Went up tower of St. Mary the Virgin University Church - wonderful views of Radcliffe Camera etc.. Excellent cream tea at same Church. Visited Ashmolean Museum (free). Shame no weather forecast displayed as at other sites. Also, no chip van even though advertised. Better to have squeegees in showers as well as mops and showers too low for 6' + husband. Neighbouring caravan allowed to pitch awning closer than 6 metres so quite noisy.

We were able to visit several nearby towns/villages as well as a NT property and some gardens. The local shop/butchers are well worth supporting. We attended Chipping Norton Baptist Church on the Sunday morning. They have adopted a novel and bold approach to surviving in the 21st century
