    Top site for fishing

A rural campsite near the city of the Norfolk Broads.

28 July 2015 - Directions send you along Long John Hill, this is now closed due to repairs on the railway bridge. Traffic is being diverted down Mansfield Lane. Continue on Mansfield Lane to a mini roundabout opposite the Cock Inn Pub, then turn Left and then immediate right onto Martineau Lane, the site is on the right hand side with double green gates.

A city campsite with a rural feel describes our Norwich Club campsite. It commands a beautiful spot next to a river with walks and fishing along the banks. Its back-to-nature feel is enhanced by a small holding with chickens and geese right next door.

It’s a fairly secluded and quiet campsite and well laid out with 50 grass pitches and well maintained facilities.

This campsite is in easy reach of the city of Norwich by bike, a lovely walk along the old railway line or by bus which stops a quarter of a mile from the site. Norwich is famed for its castle and cathedral and it has more medieval churches than any other city in Western Europe. Four large malls will satisfy the fussiest shopper and there are numerous places to eat and drink.

There are walking and cycling opportunities in Whitlingham Country Park, one-and-a-half miles from the campsite. And, as well as being a haven for wildlife, there’s also a watersports centre offering windsurfing, sailing and kayaking.

The Norfolk Broads, Britain’s largest protected wetland, is within easy reach of the campsite and is home to some of the country’s rarest plants and wildlife.

Worth Noting

Access to the riverbank for fishing during the fishing season (16 June to site closing date). Current Environment Agency rod licence is required before fishing can commence. The river can get very weedy in summer months. The site is close to the mainlin

We returned again to this lovely Norwich site and received the same warm friendly welcome! This is a little oasis and apart from the train noise (which you soon get used too), you could be mistaken for thinking your in the heart of the country. Great for travelling around lovely Norfolk, bus service close by, Wroxam and the Broads close at hand and plenty to do and see in this lovely city. Once again the only downside is the poor condition of the facilities which desperately need upgrading! The staff work hard to keep the toilets and wash area clean but the showers & toilets really need 'knocking down' and replacing with something much more modern. Similar situation in the Oxford Club site - why? If it was not for the poor facilities I would not hesitate in awarding this site a 5 - the staff deserve it.

Review delayed due to IT problem.

Review delayed due to IT problem. We found the site so well placed for Norwich and all it had to offer. Pulling in was like Narnia. Yes we heard a train Evan a helicopter, hay ho the TV signal was good.We will be back. The site is a nugget but would have liked a hand basin cubicle. Maybe some investment in the near future wouldn't go a miss, help out at busy times...Over all we really liked the site, staff & Norwich.

We enjoyed our stay but the only criticism I have is that on arrival I was told that the non electric pitch I had booked was unavailable due to wet ground but I could be accommodated on an electric pitch, I stated that I don't need electric but was told I would have to pay the extra charge per night even if I didn't use electricity, this was because the electric pitches could be sold easily. I just feel annoyed that I had to pay for a service I didn't ask for or need.

The site at the time of our stay in April 2016 was very poor in many respects and did not come up to the expectations promoted in the entry of ?Your place in the Country 2016.? The shower block is old fashioned, unheated and inadequate with only 2 showers each side (one very small, one very large but without disabled grab rails) both with dangerously hot water that cannot be regulated by the user; no wash basin cubicles at all; 2 wc?s (gents); 4 wc?s (ladies); and no alternative toilet arrangement when cleaning is carried out ? bad luck for people without. The pedestrian access to the bus stop into the city quoted at 0.25 miles from the site entrance has been inaccessible for many months and will be for many more months apparently, so that stop is about now about a mile away. The diversion access route is also very poor. This site does not warrant a band 5 pricing rate.
