    Top site for fishing

A rural campsite near the city of the Norfolk Broads.

28 July 2015 - Directions send you along Long John Hill, this is now closed due to repairs on the railway bridge. Traffic is being diverted down Mansfield Lane. Continue on Mansfield Lane to a mini roundabout opposite the Cock Inn Pub, then turn Left and then immediate right onto Martineau Lane, the site is on the right hand side with double green gates.

A city campsite with a rural feel describes our Norwich Club campsite. It commands a beautiful spot next to a river with walks and fishing along the banks. Its back-to-nature feel is enhanced by a small holding with chickens and geese right next door.

It’s a fairly secluded and quiet campsite and well laid out with 50 grass pitches and well maintained facilities.

This campsite is in easy reach of the city of Norwich by bike, a lovely walk along the old railway line or by bus which stops a quarter of a mile from the site. Norwich is famed for its castle and cathedral and it has more medieval churches than any other city in Western Europe. Four large malls will satisfy the fussiest shopper and there are numerous places to eat and drink.

There are walking and cycling opportunities in Whitlingham Country Park, one-and-a-half miles from the campsite. And, as well as being a haven for wildlife, there’s also a watersports centre offering windsurfing, sailing and kayaking.

The Norfolk Broads, Britain’s largest protected wetland, is within easy reach of the campsite and is home to some of the country’s rarest plants and wildlife.

Worth Noting

Access to the riverbank for fishing during the fishing season (16 June to site closing date). Current Environment Agency rod licence is required before fishing can commence. The river can get very weedy in summer months. The site is close to the mainlin

We have stayed here since April 2016 on 28 day stay until the site closed at the end of October 2016. We had a lovely warm welcome from the managers Lizzie & Paul and not forgetting George ( what a gem ).We were sorry to read some bad comments about the staff, which I think are really unfair. Since we came to Norwich in April 2016 we have seen all the hard work that Lizzie, Paul & George have put in to transform this place from what it was. The flowers & hanging baskets around the facilities block are gorgeous, George & Paul were always out cutting back hedges, pruning trees& cutting grass, while Lizzie was tending the flowers, clearing brush from under the trees & weeding They just never stopped. The toilet block is a little outdated but it was always clean. The facilities block gets checked regular by male or female staff, the male members always make themselves known before entering. When we first arrived we did think George was a bit abrupt, but after getting to know him he was really kind & helpful, he spoke really quick with a Geordie accent and I think he was miss understood. Nothing was ever too much trouble for any of the staff, they were always available to help if you needed them. This is a very busy site always full, very convenient to town, lots to do around & about. There is a little train noise but it has never bothered us.

The site is easily accessed from the dual carriageway and is a straightforward half hour walk in to Norwich - which is a City well worth spending a few days in - great shopping and lots of history and culture. However other than this, we felt the camp site was below par for CCC. The site looks rural (if you ignore the suburban house overlooking one corner) but that's about it - in reality it is sandwiched between a stream, the railway line and within a short distance of the main dual carriageway to the South of Norwich. It is therefore very noisy - perhaps we suffered more than most as our pitch was close to the main London-Norwich railway line (about 50 yards away) and especially at night this was a problem. Even when the trains aren't passing though there is a permanent background hum from the traffic on the dual carriageway which effects all pitches. In terms of facilities there are two showers for men and women (one large and one very small) and two toilets - and whilst adequate off season when we were there, they must get very busy during the Summer months. However that's about it for facilities - nothing for children, and the river walk takes about 4 minutes, and in truth it is not a hugely impressive - a weed clogged stream rather than a river. So great for location and we would stay again for that reason alone but be aware that depending on the location of your pitch this is a noisy site with limited facilities.

This site needs attention the staff do their best but the showers and toilet block needs rebuilding very old no heating also. The ground is poor drainage so when wet your unit gets very dirty no hard stands or roads to drive on pitch as best you can. In all a big let down when you have stayed on other club sites
