    Top site for fishing

A rural campsite near the city of the Norfolk Broads.

A city campsite with a rural feel describes our Norwich Club campsite. It commands a beautiful spot next to a river with walks and fishing along the banks. Its back-to-nature feel is enhanced by a small holding with chickens and geese right next door.

It’s a fairly secluded and quiet campsite and well laid out with 50 grass pitches and well maintained facilities.

This campsite is in easy reach of the city of Norwich by bike, a lovely walk along the old railway line or by bus which stops a quarter of a mile from the site. Norwich is famed for its castle and cathedral and it has more medieval churches than any other city in Western Europe. Four large malls will satisfy the fussiest shopper and there are numerous places to eat and drink.

There are walking and cycling opportunities in Whitlingham Country Park, one-and-a-half miles from the campsite. And, as well as being a haven for wildlife, there’s also a watersports centre offering windsurfing, sailing and kayaking.

The Norfolk Broads, Britain’s largest protected wetland, is within easy reach of the campsite and is home to some of the country’s rarest plants and wildlife.

Worth Noting

Access to the riverbank for fishing during the fishing season (16 June to site closing date). Current Environment Agency rod licence is required before fishing can commence. The river can get very weedy in summer months. The site is close to the mainlin

This site is a hidden gem as it is literally a ten minute walk into the riverside area of Norwich, yet in a place that you would swear was in the country, facilities on site are great, very clean and well maintained, a special mention for Steve who runs the site and even tho he didn`t stock the gas bottle we required when we ran out, he went out of his way to help us and that sort of personal touch means a lot when you are thinking of using a site again. Also the pub next to the campsite The Cock ( no giggling please) is under new ownership, the food was good and very friendly for kids and families, i look forward to returning to this site in the near future.

This review is for Norwich

We used this site as a base for visiting various places around Norwich and Norfolk for three nights in July 2014 - and we had a lovely stay. We were in the right-hand field, the one that is the site of the former Lakenham Lido (closed in 1992 and with an interesting history - one of us swam there before it closed). We were able to pitch our medium-sized tent in a way that gave us plenty of privacy and we had hardly any disturbance at all on this quiet site (we were deliberately visiting outside the school holidays). No complaints at all about the facilities which were perfectly adequate, spotlessly clean and well-maintained - developing the site further would ruin its atmosphere. A lovely, secluded, restful spot and the river/woodland walk is a delight. Also extremely convenient for Norwich. The site wardens were available but not intrusive (something that is not always true of C&CC sites). I'd have no trouble recommending this and we definitely plan to return. Thanks for a very nice stay.

Can not see what many of previous complaints were about!. Spotless facilities, we didn't queue once for showers etc, Steve, Sue and Alan very friendly and helpful. Showers and toilets dated but local council restricting club as to what can and cant be done on site. We enjoyed our time at Norwich, will be better when new owners of local pub start doing food later than 6pm, which will be soon. We will be returning to Norwich in the future. PS, Alans laptop train simulator was great, a classic example of vendor-customer interface!. Greta site team, keep it up.

This review is for Norwich

This site is rural with its surrounding countryside and proximity to the river which has a pleasant short walk along its bank. We liked the way that the vans/tents were more informally positioned compared to some other sites. We have seen some comments on other reviews about the toilets/showers. Yes these are not the most modern but the fittings are perfectly adequate and the whole building is SPOTLESS. Not even a cobweb in the rafters! This is more important than the age of the basins. More than adequate washing up and clothes washing facilities, again spotless. The management and staff are very helpful and friendly. We were shown to our pitch by Alan who then looked in on us at times during our stay to have a chat. He recommended a good pub for Sunday lunch and a garden centre for coffee and cake - both excellent. During our stay we had torrential rain (luckily mostly at night) and the site coped admirably. No flooding, no mud. Generally it shows that the management maintains this site very well. As far as the local attractions are concerned you have the whole of Norwich - we walked our little (elderly) feet off! Our list of favorites as follows: Norwich Cathedral and environs Norwich Castle City Cruises River trip In addition Norwich City Council are to be complemented on the standard and quality of the planting to their verges and roundabouts etc. In particular the wild flower planting - really beautiful.
