    Top sites for dogs

A spacious, quiet campsite by the county town of Hertford that you can enjoy all year round.

Our Hertford Club campsite is on the outskirts of the attractive market town of the same name and surrounded by rolling countryside.

This campsite, although large is spacious with some 250 pitches, offers many quiet and secluded pitches and there are lots of separate areas to choose from. The site is well laid out with well- maintained facilities including washing machine and dryers, inside dish washing area, an outdoor play area and dog walk.

There is a separate tent area with a facility block close at hand. The whole site is plentifully supplied with trees, hedges and shrubs and there is an attractive lake too.

It’s an easy walk into Hertford with its town square and River Lea towpath walk. And Balls Park close by is excellent for dog-walks.

The Cole Green Way, part of the National Cycle Network, is about 1.5 miles from the campsite, starting at Hertford Football Club it follows a former railway to Welwyn Garden City. There are more recreational options at Hartham Common, just a few minutes’ walk from the town centre.

For days out there’s Paradise Wildlife Park, Knebworth House and Waltham Abbey or you can take a train to London from Hertford East which is a 20-minute walk from the campsite.

Although a large site, there are several pitching areas all well screened by established trees and shrubs which gave it a secluded feel. The toilets and showers were spotless. The play area is kept separate and the equipment looks fairly new. We walked to Hertford East train station which took us a steady 25 minutes and paid 17 each return to London including the underground (off peak). Would definitely go back.

This is a local site for us so we have used it reasonably regularly over the last four years or so. Personally, ive never had issues with any of the Wardens in this time but I must say this years staff are the best ive encountered on any C&CC site so far, super friendly, always a hello when passing by or a wave from afar. This year we stayed for 3 nights on the first May bank holiday and then a total of 9 nights for the second one. This is a really lovely site, very large (35 acres from memory) and pretty flat. It has lots of hard standing for caravans / motorhomes and appears to be plenty of grass with electric for tents. The toilet / shower blocks are about 20yrs old and always immaculately clean with plenty of hot water. Hertford town is a nice place to visit, lots of pubs, cafes and places to eat. For your everyday essentials, there is a Tesco about 2 miles from the site, a Sainsburys just on the fringe of the town, a Waitrose in the town centre and if your feeling really lazy then there is a M&S food / BP petrol station at the top of the hill right on the A10 junction! TV reception was file, mobile phone coverage good and as a previous reviewer has mentioned a really good Indian takeaway that delivers to the site within about 30 mins (and that was on a Saturday night). Massive thanks to Cliff, Sean and the Team for a great stay, hope to see you again soon!
