Visiting Inverness Castle
Overlooking the River Ness, atop a cliff in Inverness, the capital of the Higlands.
Inverness Castle is a magnificent structure that has undergone various architectural developments since the 11th century.
Before it became the neo-Norman structure visible today, it was known as Fort George, an 18th century citadal.
It has strong links with William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth and was also once attacked and captured by Mary Queen of Scots.
