Visiting Bassenthwaite Lake
Sitting in the shadow of Skiddaw, Bassenthwaite Lake is one of the largest in the Lake District. The wildlife rich body of water is popular with nature lovers, here are some of the highlights of visiting:
- The Lakes Distillery is at the north end of the lake and is ideal for sampling some locally made spirits.
- The Dodd Wood on the eastern shore is famous for ospreys so makes a brilliant walk for wildlife lovers.
- Whinlatter Forest, managed by Forestry England, is on the western shore and has plenty for all ages to get involved with including walking trails, mountain biking and even Go Ape.
- You’ll come across plenty of brilliant photo opportunities while exploring near Bassenthwaite but if you walk along the Whinlatter Pass from Braithwaite Village you’ll come across the Noble Knott car park on your right and on the left the viewpoint gives a great view of the water.
