Getting to Castle Howard

Castle Howard’s location makes it easy to get to. From our Slingsby Club Site, it’s a 6-minute drive, and from our Sheriff Hutton Club Site, it’s a 14-minute drive by car. Parking is free, and there’s a separate car park for Blue Badge holders.

Castle Howard is also easily accessible via public transport. You can get the number 81 bus directly from York or get the train to Malton Station and then catch the bus the rest of the way.

The grounds, Farm Shop, and other amenities at Castle Howard are open year-round. However, the House is open from April to October each year. It’s advisable to check opening times prior to visiting.

• Waterways which dominate the landscape including lakes, rivers and the large Atlas Fountain.
• Ray wood, the Woodland Garden with paths meandering through botanical collections from across the world. The pretty woodland is a vibrant flower meadow in spring.

Built over a 100-year period, starting in 1699, the House remains home to the Howard family. Enter the House to marvel at dramatic interiors, including Castle Howard’s iconic dome. See world-renowned art collections and learn about Castle Howard's stories and history from friendly and knowledgeable guides.
