An insight into Scarborough Castle

Scarborough Castle sits beautifully atop a vast grassy headland which is larger than twelve football pitches. It offers breathtaking panoramic views over the town, the harbour and Scarborough Bay.
During your visit, you will receive a free audio tour that brings the ruins to life. The tour guides you through centuries of history and shares stories of battles, sieges and the people who once called the castle home. If you would like to discover even more, visit the Scarborough Castle Museum, which contains fascinating artefacts from prehistoric times through to the First World War.
As you walk through the castle grounds, you will see the Inner Bailey and the Great Tower. Both offer elevated vantage points that let you fully appreciate why this site was strategically important for more than three thousand years.
Along the cliff edges of the headland, you will find remnants of the past, including the remains of a Roman signal station and an Anglo-Saxon church that was later built on the same site. While exploring, you may also notice a striking modern sculpture that highlights climate change. This is part of the innovative Wild Eye art and nature project, which blends creativity with environmental awareness.
On a clear day, remember to pack a picnic and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Wander across the wildflower meadows and relax while taking in the dramatic coastal scenery.
