Pevensey Castle is one of Britain’s oldest
and most important strongholds. Its
fortifications date back to Roman times.
Eastbourne is five miles to the south.
The Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway
Adventure Park includes a five-acre fishing
lake and trains of several sizes.
Eastbourne’s developing Sovereign Marina
includes many shops, craft outlets and
waterfront restaurants.
Beachy Head is Britain’s highest chalk cliff. The Countryside Centre has interactive
displays about its wildlife and history.
The South Downs Way ends at the Seven Sisters Country Park. The Seven Sisters is a series of vertical chalk headlands.
The Observatory Science Centre at
Herstmonceux – once home to the “pips”
broadcast on BBC radio – includes
exhibitions on Medieval Machines, puzzles
and an outdoor science playground.
The picturesque village of Alfriston has a
long history of smuggling.
Take the ferry from Newhaven and enjoy
a day trip to France.
Drusillas Park has over 130 animal species. It includes a walk-through bat enclosure, a Penguin Bay and a meerkat dome.
Please ignore the Norman’s Bay sign on
the way to the Site, as shown on the map
below, to avoid a single-track road.
Did You Know
Norman’s Bay is named after the 1066 invasion by William the Conqueror, but at the time the area was underwater. Since then, the constant erosion of Beachy Head at Eastbourne has allowed the pebbles to build up and form land.
Worth Noting
The site is next to its own privately-owned beach, fishing is available from here. Well-stocked shop on site.
Eat Local
The local baker delivers fresh rolls, croissants and pastries to the Site shop every day. There are several farm shops in the area.
