    Top site for walking

Located on the River Ure, this campsite is a great spot for walking or visiting nearby York.

Our pretty Boroughbridge Club campsite in north Yorkshire, just off the A1, is a great stop over site for those traveling up or down the country. Equally, its location close the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks makes it a good base for those wanting to explore Yorkshire’s many attractions.

The River Ure borders the campsite and provides somewhere to relax and watch the world float by. The campsite benefits from recently refurbished facilities, it also has a well-stocked shop and a large area for ball games.

There are a number of walking opportunities from site. The old town of Boroughbridge is within walking distance. There are a circular walks too, or you can enjoy a stroll along the river and to Ripon.

The delightful Harrogate – great for shopping and Betty’s Tearoom – and the city of York – with its famous minster and the Jorvik Viking Centre – are a drive away while Fountains Abbey, Studley Royall and Newby Hall make interesting days out.

Self-catering accommodation is available at this site. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the self-catering properties).

Available to buy are stunning holiday caravans and lodges. Visit the Club Holiday Homes website to find out more or call 02477 983801.

Unable to sleep all night owing to the constant machine noise coming from the Diary over the road. We were hoping for a peaceful getaway but will now look elsewhere.

On arrival we were disappointed with the welcome and service received.

On arrival we were disappointed with the welcome and service received. The attendant on duty was very abrupt and unprepared. The first pitch allocated, he decided was unsuitable and preceded to offer another, which considering our needs with a VW camper and awning was sloping and again unsuitable. On our request he finally offered an alternative rather ungraciously (not the helpful camp attitude we have experienced in the past from other clubsites). The hookup for our pitch being so far away we had to use an extension lead to our 12 metre lead which we felt to be a safety issue. During the week on speaking to others campers they too had not received a friendly welcome. Also only one light was working in the first field which was by the steps and the far pitches were in darkness - difficult for older campers and felt quite intimidating considering the early autumn nights. Sadly we had no other contact with the staff as they didn't make any approach during the week and although the leaflets etc were available no interaction was forthcoming. Not what we have come to expect from the 'friendly club'. We would use the site again purely due to the location and would hope other members have a better experience in the future.

This site is convenient for access from the A1 and ideal for a stop over.

This review is for Boroughbridge

This site is convenient for access from the A1 and ideal for a stop over. It is also ideal for exploring the many attractions of the area such as York, Harrogate, Studley Royal, Castle Howard to name but a few. I have stayed at Boroughbride in the past but have never previously noticed the constant drone of refrigeration units as well as large goods vehicles coming and going at all times of the day and night from the milk distribution centre just across the road from the site, that could be an issue for the light sleeper. The site amenities are very well maintained but dated with the type of showers with push buttons. The site is not lit beyond the amenities block which means it is very dark around the outer edges so make sure you have a torch. There is a flood defence barrier between the block and the rest of the site which is crossed by either a set of stone steps or a long ramp, this makes it unsuitable for anyone with walking difficulties. The setting is pleasantly located next to the river and the close proximity to Boroughbridge and numerous public houses serving food makes up for some of its short comings. There is also a large supermarket within a mile or two of the site. To summarise, provided you have a torch, are reasonably fit and sleep like a log you should be fine here.

“What a lovely site this is. Stayed over a weekend in June for the first time with our 2 boys 11 and 8 and will be back again, one of the best c&cc sites we have been to. The site has a small play area for the kids and an area on 'the paddock' for ball games etc. Lovely peaceful site by the river (no direct access though) with regular visits from the ducks. Fish and Chip van visits the site on a tues, thurs and sat evening between 430 and 515 although we didnt get the opportunity to try this time. Boroughbridge is a short drive away or accessible on foot with directions available from reception, we had a lovely sunday lunch at the three horse shoes which was not over priced. Site also ideally located for visiting York and Harrogate. Looking forward to our next visit keep up the good work and thanks for a lovely weekend.”
