Overview

A great campsite to explore Canterbury, with a bus stop outside the site entrance.

City, coast and countryside – you can take your pick if you’re basing yourself at our Canterbury Club campsite. Although a popular stopover for those travelling to or from France, this campsite offers the ideal base for exploring Kent’s coast and country.

The campsite lies a couple of miles south of the city – within walking distance (or hire a bike on site). The not so energetic can catch a bus from outside the campsite. The well laid out campsite offers a mix of level grass and hardstand pitches. There are newly refurbished toilet and shower facilities, a washing up area, children’s play area and good dog walking.

Off site Canterbury is a city packed with history, heritage and culture. It has a stunning cathedral and the ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey and St Martin’s Church and castle. It also has an eclectic mix of specialist shops, independent retailers, bars and restaurants.

Head to the coast for Whitstable with its trendy harbour and July Oyster Festival. The more traditional Herne-Bay has two miles of seafront adorned with colourful beach huts and a pier. The quaint Victorian town of Broadstairs with its Punch and Judy shows and donkey rides is a contrast to the more cosmopolitan habour side Ramsgate noted for its pavement cafes and waterside bars.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Once round Canterbury, the site is easy to find and access. Even at the weekend, when the site was full, peace reigned, so our stay was very relaxing. We walked into Canterbury several times; an easy walk, but noisy from the traffic on the main road. Canterbury is small enough to be easy to explore and it is very picturesque. However, from about 10-30am onwards it becomes quite crowded, with large groups of tourists, school groups etc. being shown around. During our stay we visited Ightham Mote, a very nice NT property which is about an hour away. Beware, though, that it is hidden deep in the Kent countryside. I was allowed to ride on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway which was different. We went all the way to Dungeness which is surprisingly bleak. The only trip that we did not enjoy was to Ramsgate which we found to be quite run-down, with lots of empty shops and litter in the streets.

We used this site to explore Canterbury which is approx 20min walk, and full of character /history, we drove to Herne Bay (approx 30min)which is nice but thought that there was more to do at Whitstable(approx 30min )with its harbour market stalls, and we also spent a day at Broadstairs(approx 45min ) what a gem of a place especially when the tourist information do a free guided tour which was very interesting, but we also took our passports as we went to Paris for the day catching the Euro Star from Ashford International(approx 45min) even though it was an early start as few trains stop at Ashford it was well worth it, we booked the tickets well in advance and they cost 75 return each, and going to Paris and up the tower was one of the highlights of our holiday. It goes without saying that the site was emaculate, friendly, I liked the touch of there being a sink and dryer within the chemical loo area, once again thanks.

We've used this site both to explore the local area and for its ease of access to the Channel ports. It ticks all the boxes. The staff go the extra mile with nice touches like all the flower boxes around the site.
