Overview

A great campsite to explore Canterbury, with a bus stop outside the site entrance.

City, coast and countryside – you can take your pick if you’re basing yourself at our Canterbury Club campsite. Although a popular stopover for those travelling to or from France, this campsite offers the ideal base for exploring Kent’s coast and country.

The campsite lies a couple of miles south of the city – within walking distance (or hire a bike on site). The not so energetic can catch a bus from outside the campsite. The well laid out campsite offers a mix of level grass and hardstand pitches. There are newly refurbished toilet and shower facilities, a washing up area, children’s play area and good dog walking.

Off site Canterbury is a city packed with history, heritage and culture. It has a stunning cathedral and the ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey and St Martin’s Church and castle. It also has an eclectic mix of specialist shops, independent retailers, bars and restaurants.

Head to the coast for Whitstable with its trendy harbour and July Oyster Festival. The more traditional Herne-Bay has two miles of seafront adorned with colourful beach huts and a pier. The quaint Victorian town of Broadstairs with its Punch and Judy shows and donkey rides is a contrast to the more cosmopolitan habour side Ramsgate noted for its pavement cafes and waterside bars.

We got a really helpful and friendly welcome to the site and a choice of pitches which reflected our need for the dog walk. My wife says that the showers were plentiful, large, very clean and well equipped with hooks etc. she was very impressed and thought they were the best she has used. The location is perfect for touring North Kent and very near Canterbury with a bus stop very close to the site, supermarkets and shopping are just a short drive away. We enjoyed several of the local towns and resorts in this very picturesque part of England, Whitstable is turning into a charming little place with seafood and a weekend market on the dockside and some lovely little shops to explore. We were warned against going to Margate but that was from someone who had not visited for a few years and we found the area around the harbour, old town and Turner Gallery to be well worth a visit. We thought Sandwich was a jewel and spent quite some time there wandering admiring the old buildings and choosing somewhere for lunch. If you need anything for your tent or caravan while you are there I can highly recommend W.M.Camping at Herne Common just outside Herne Bay, I urgently needed help after my awning gave way in heavy rain and I could not have received better service anywhere.

Pulled on to Canterbury overnight parking as too tired to drive any further. Warden came out to welcome us and let us know that there was a pitch available. To find such a welcome whilst we were feeling so tired was such an uplift to a gruelling day as we never expected to be sited that night. What a wonderful and professional couple. In fact the whole team of wardens are so happy and friendly on this superb site. 101%

Just come back from three nights at this site.

This review is for Canterbury

Just come back from three nights at this site. Been many times before over the years and seen the changes made. Firstly the welcome. Well there wasn't any, swift, efficient, abrupt even but not friendly welcome. Asked a couple of questions over the weekend and got answers but to be frank they were not interested in you the camper. The refurbished facilities are very good but there are far too many hard standings around the toilet blocks and not enough grass pitches with EHU for tenters. Obviously the idea it to make it more for caravans than tents. Dog walk has been extended into a circular route, not sure about the make shift bridge at the bottom but with two entrances why only a dog bin at one? Love the location but sadly the green grass is disappearing rapidly.
