Muncaster Castle and Gardens
This reputedly haunted castle is a 13th century family home and commands lower Eskdale from its vantage point above the Ravenglass estuary.
Wander around the castle hallways and delve in and out of its rooms, taking time to learn about the Pennington family who lived here for centuries.
Don’t forget to watch the daily bird displays, set in the castle grounds. Witness the stealthy flight of the owl, the swooping dive of the falcon and the majestic eagle as it soars over the valley.
Creeping Kate’s Café is located in the castle’s stables which is famous for its Cumbrian breakfast. If you’re looking for something a bit lighter, the Owl Garden Tea Room can be found in the Hawk and Owl Centre.
The 24-hour car-park is beside the Main Gate, which is approximately half a mile from the castle.
Muncaster Gardens stretches over 70 acres of wild woodland and is a great place to walk your dog.
