Visiting Ennerdale Water
A glacial lake situated in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria. Roughly only one mile wide and 2.5 miles long it is one of the smallest and least disturbed in the area.
Ennerdale Water is surrounded by some of the best known fells in Cumbria including, Great Gable, with its boulder strewn summit. The views and scenery are magnificent.
The water at Ennerdale is exceptionally clear and contains a huge variety of fish; it serves as a reservoir for the coastal towns of West Cumbria and is the only lake that doesn’t have a road running alongside it.
The closing sequences of the 2002 movie, 28 days later, directed by Danny Boyle were filmed here.
With impressive mountains Ennerdale is a walker’s paradise. The accessible walks follow the lakeshore and give glorious views without too much effort to find them.
