The High Peak Trail is a 17.5 mile trail from High Peak Junction, near Cromford to Dowlow near Buxton, it follows the route of the former Cromford and High Peak Railway.  If you wish to avoid steep inclines start from Middleton Top Car Park, the route from here is traffic free and suitable for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The best stretch is from Middleton Top to Minninglow. There is cycle hire and toilets at Middleton and Parsley Hay with picnic tables along the route.  For the less energetic you can enjoy delightful views from Middleton Top and there is a visitor centre, gift shop and picnic area.  The Engine House is open to the public on some afternoons, you can see the restored steam engine  built in 1829 to haul wagons up the Middleton incline, a 700 yard long 1 in 8 gradient. 8.5 miles from Ashbourne C&CClub site.
