Ride Yorkshire Sportive

Event Venue: Thirsk Racecourse, Station Road, Thirsk, North Yorkshire, YO7 1QL

The Ride Yorkshire Sportive is the second of our Yorkshire events for 2020, this time starting from Thirsk Racecourse. The World Road Cycling Championship visited Yorkshire in 2019 so this is your chance to follow in the champs tyre tracks and explore God's Own Country from your bike.

Starting out north and heading through the Vale of Mowbray, the Ride Yorkshire Sportive covers some easy miles on the gently rolling terrain until you reach the market town of Northallerton. Here, riders will head west to cross the river Swale and head on over to Leeming Bar before turning south.

Just outside Carthorpe, our course splits for the first time where the short route riders continue on the flat miles east, while the standard and epic riders push out further south and onto Masham. Once at Masham, the standard and epic group push even further south for some punishing climbs and fantastic scenery.

North Yorkshire Cycling

Riders on these routes will skirt the edge of Leighton Reservoir at which point the real climbing begins, heading straight for Ouster Bank trig point. A technical descent awaits after the summit as you drop down into Nidderdale via the village of Lofthouse, where you will be rewarded for your efforts with a ride along the river Nidd and the Gouthwaite Reservoir all the way to Pateley Bridge. Epic riders continue south here for a particularly challenging climb up Red Brae Bank, while standard riders take a short sharp climb through the centre of this beautiful Yorkshire town. Both routes reconvene before heading north up over Pateley Moo,r en route back to Masham to rejoin the rest of the ride. Now on the home straight, riders can expect some easy miles as they head east for the finish in Thirsk.

With a mixture of climbs and technical descents, the Ride Yorkshire Sportive has everything you'd expect a cycle ride through North Yorkshire to have. Why not test yourself against the terrain and soak up its beauty by entering one of the three routes on offer. Consistently rated highly by our previous riders, you won't be disappointed.
