Observatory Telescope

Observatory Telescope

Experience the wonders of the night sky from Sherwood observatory, Nottinghamshire. Saturday 16th February 2019 event sees our very own enthusiastic member astronomer Steve Smith deliver a series of rolling talks based on What is available to the modern Amateur Astronomer, up there and down here! Steve will give details of a typical visual setup showing progress in hardware like telescopes, touch on the advances with lenses and a digital photography setup, showing what can be achieved now against what it was like 30 – 40 years ago.

In addition, the society boasts a 24-inch Newtonian reflecting telescope housed in a dome top of a spiral staircase, the scope having the capability to point with accuracy to any object in the night sky.

At Sherwood observatory we will have our radio astronomy section offering real time detection of meteors and a chance to see and hold a variety of meteorites. Refreshments and astronomy themed merchandise will be available too.
