Howick Hall walking tour route in Spring

Howick Hall walking tour route in Spring

Enjoy the Beauty of Two Northumberland Gardens

Join us for a great package holiday for garden lovers!

The package includes 4 nights camping with electric on a hardstanding or grass pitch (4-8 May); wine reception (eve, 4th May; return coach journey and entrance to two spectacular and quite contrasting Northumberland Gardens- Alnwick Gardens and Howick Hall, spending a half day at each (on 5th May).  See and

Alnwick Gardens represent one of the most ambitious 21st Century garden projects in Europe set near Alnwick Castle, owned by the Duke of Northumberland. It offers a vast choice of themed garden displays and water features.  The garden is maturing and developing all the time and improves on each visit! In early May we should catch the cherry blossom in the orchard and tulips galore.

Just a short journey from Alnwick Gardens, Howick Hall (of Earl Grey fame) has wilder, more natural and expansive garden grounds. BBC Gardeners’ World magazine included the Howick gardens in a list of the top five coastal gardens in the country, and The Independent newspaper voted it one of the best ten gardens to visit in Spring. You can’t visit Howick without popping into the Earl Grey Tea Rooms and we provide a complimentary cream tea voucher to each camper!  We are also taken on a 1 hour short walking tour on arrival at Howick Hall. The land area here is simply enormous, stretching down to the coast road, but the walking tour helps us see many higlights in the afternoon. You are, though, free to do your own thing if you prefer.Maps of both gardens will be provided to help you plan what to do at each property.

On the following day of your stay(6th May), we take you on a choice of Guided walks from the Bellingham site in the beautiful North Tyne Valley.  The walks are optional but not arduous, the choices comprising walking distances of 1 1/2 miles to 10 miles (with a break in Bellingham itself).

Take a look at our Pre-arrival guide on the Bellingham Site web page, for ideas for activities on your final day (7th May). If you like walking, the Hareshaw Linn waterfall is hard to beat. Otherwise, visit a stately home, another garden, Hadrian's Wall, or Kielder Forest and Water Park.  Northumberland National park is the 2018 winner of the best National Park in Britain from the British Tourism awards - our site is on its doorstep!  Clear skies offer stunning night skies too (we are in a Dark Skies area), so bring some binoculars!

Notes: The tour requires a minimum of 8 persons booked to be operationally viable at these prices.  If this minimum number is not reached, we will refund any monies spent that cover the tour component of your stay. However, it has managed to run successfully each year since 2015.and sold out quickly in 2018 (max number 28 people).
