Stunning Night Skies in a Gold Tier Dark Sky Park
Join us for a weekend of stargazing on-site within the newest and largest Gold Tier Dark Skies park in Europe. Weekends include an introductory talk on the Fri night given by the Starmakers Stargazing Events astronomers, night sky observing with the help of the experts and their telescopes, all with free hot drinks and a log-burning stove available in our refuge. Large telescopes will still be on site for the Sat night and further talks given and/or workshops held.
We are holding 2 camps in 2018:
9/10 March: *****NOW SOLD OUT (01/02/18)***** (could be worth phoning in case of cancellation)
A weekend of exploring nebula, galaxies and star clusters or simply admiring the Milky Way. The moon rise/set times give us a dark sky to see deep space objects through the scopes. We plan a telescope workshop on the Sat, early evening, to those who may be interested, plus potentially a 2nd talk.
14/15 Dec: *****approx 30 places left (01/02/18)*****
Our usual, now annual, Geminids Star Camp weekend – the meteor show peaks on the Fri night and once the moon has set at 11pm, the shooting stars (>100 per hour) should be spectacular, if the sky is cloudless! December can offer superbly clear stargazing. A Kielder Observatory astronomer will be invited on the Sat to give us a talk. Note that due to a half-moon until it sets, you need to be prepared to stay up late for the best view of deep space objects and shooting stars.
Tickets required to participate per pitch: 1 nt, £9.50; 2 nts, £15.
NB. Normal bookings for a camping pitch do not entitle the camper to the additional Star Camp ticket. Star Camp Tickets must be requested by phoning the Site direct and are limited to approx. 25 pitches (50 people places). Note that the events are very popular with several regular attendees.
