Getting ready to hit the road again?
The RAC estimates that one in ten of us stopped using our cars completely in lockdown. So, if you furloughed your car, here’s what you need to do to get it back to full working order. This is also relevant when you’re looking to get your motorhome and campervans ready for their first trips.
- Check your battery - Car batteries can lose charge if they’re not driven regularly. No fewer than 50% of all RAC callouts on one day at the height of lockdown were battery-related, with 2000 new batteries being fitted on that day alone.
- Tyre care - If you leave your car for long periods your tyres can develop flat spots, so it’s important to check their condition and pressure when you start driving again. Look for cracks in the wall of the tyre and change it if necessary.
- Brakes and lights – If your car has been parked for a long time, your handbrake could be stuck on, so it’s worth checking that before you drive off again. And make sure you have a good stock of spare bulbs; don’t wait until you need them.
- Cover yourself - If you do break down when you’re out and about again, Arrival Breakdown Cover from the RAC will make sure both your car, caravan or motorhome are looked after. There’s no need for separate policies when you choose personal based Arrival cover
