Club welcomes new Chairman
Bob Talbot has been elected as The Camping and Caravanning Club’s new Chairman, replacing Mel Hill who held the role from 2016-2018.
Bob, from Newton Abbot, Devon, was elected by the Club’s National Council during its November 2018 meeting at its Coventry headquarters.
He served in the Royal Navy for 24 years and left as a CPO marine engineer and is now self-employed, working in commercial chemical sales. It was in 1965 that he started camping with his parents in their Eccles caravan, which began his love of camping and caravanning.
Alongside his role with the Club, Bob continues to camp in both a tent and caravan at organised meets and rallies, and when out with his local District Association.
Bob said: “I’m really looking forward to meeting other members when out and about, and promoting the benefits of the Club and the great outdoors.
“The Club for me is all about the friendship. In the time I’ve been with the Club I’ve camped at many meets and made friends for life.
Camping offers so much flexibility and my own daughters have grown up enjoying camping holidays – both have gone through the Club’s Youth Section and my eldest now has a caravan of her own.”
Alongside his role as Chairman, Bob, who grew up in Blackburn, Lancs, continues to sit as a member of the Club’s Executive Committee, Management Committee and National Youth Committee.
Robert Louden MBE, Director General of The Camping and Caravanning Club, said: “Bob brings a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to the role and is a great ambassador for the Club.
“He has been a Club member for nearly 30 years and held many important positions in this time, including South West Region Chairman and Club Vice Chairman between 2016 and 2018.”
Following his term as Chairman, Mel Hill now becomes the Club’s Immediate Past Chairman. Phil Henson was elected the Club’s new Vice Chairman at the November 2018 meeting.
The Camping and Caravanning Club is the world’s oldest and largest Club for all forms of camping.
