The Camping and Caravanning Club will re-launch next week its campaign to support local communities by encouraging holidaymakers to ‘Eat Local’ and enjoy great British produce when out camping and caravanning.

The initiative has again welcomed the support of Calor, the UK’s leading provider of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, as well as outdoor camping specialist and industry leader, Outwell.

To raise awareness of the campaign, the Club will release a new Eat Local guide which contains valuable regional information including; local delicacies, recommended eateries and wineries and where to look for the very best gastro-delights.

And it’s not just regional information that’s provided; the guide also focuses on some of the Club’s most beautiful sites and lets you into each area’s Eat Local secrets.

The handy guide will be available from next Tuesday to download from the new-look Eat Local section of the Club’s website ( where there will be even more information and monthly recipe videos to tantalise those taste-buds, as well as some fantastic competitions to enter!

Food and camping expert, Ali Ray, who is a regular contributor to the Club’s magazine and is behind the campaign, said: “Working with the Club on their Eat Local content has been great fun. I hope the recipe videos in particular, inspire campers to leave those tins of food at home and make cooking part of their camping adventure.

“The recipes are easy to make meals, using all the brilliant ingredients that can be found in the farm shops and markets close to our Club Sites. The way I see it, Eating Local is a win-win situation; campers get fresh, interesting high quality ingredients at the same time as supporting the local economy and local communities.”

Clive Garrett, Outwell’s Communcations Executive, said: “Al fresco dining has to be one of the great pleasures associated with the camping experience and as the market-leading manufacturer of innovative family camping equipment it is one that we actively encourage all campers to enthusiastically grasp.

“We fully support the Club’s on-going ‘Eat Local’ campaign for promoting the high standard of produce to be found in our countryside, and for its latest cookery videos that help any campsite chef lift the simplest meal to gourmet heights.”

Sammy Hayward, Marketing Executive at Calor added: “Calor has always been a supporter of Eat Local, which encourages people to take advantage of the many wonderful (and wacky) gastro treats Britain has to offer, and by producing this guide it allows you to discover these for yourself.”

Ali will be available to answer any questions and share recipe ideas at The Spring Caravan & Camping Show on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday (19th, 22nd, 23rd 24th) at the NEC, Birmingham.

To celebrate the re-launch, a selection of food will be available to taste at the Club’s stand (Hall 4) at certain times of the day – highlighting the quality of produce when bought from local suppliers.

Copies of the guide will also be accessible on the Club’s Stand throughout the week.

Robert Louden, the Club’s Director General, said: “From recent research, the daily amount spent by our campers within the local community is £32 per unit or pitch, excluding site fees, when staying on a Club Site – and it’s important for us to continue to support businesses, particularly during these tough economic times.

“We’re delighted to be working with Calor and Outwell; they’re both leading brands and its fantastic to receive such support for what is such a worthwhile campaign.”
