Camping in the Forest has continued to cement its position as an environmentally-friendly holiday choice by winning 16 Gold Rosettes in the prestigious David Bellamy Conservation Awards for 2012.

The commended sites that have demonstrated the exceptional lengths they have gone to, to protect and enhance the natural environment are; Aldridge Hill, Ardgartan, Ashurst, Beddgelert, Cashel, Christchurch, Cobleland, Denny Wood/Matley Wood, Glenmore, Hollands Wood, Holmsley, Ocknell/Longbeech, Postern Hill, Roundhill, Setthorns and Thorpe.

Additionally two Camping and Caravanning Club Sites – Bakewell and Speyside - also achieved Gold Rosettes.

The parks that take part in the David Bellamy Awards scheme are all regularly assessed by a team of local wildlife experts.

The assessors look at the steps parks are taking to: manage their land as a haven for wildlife, reduce their use of energy, water and other resources, reduce, reuse and recycle the waste they produce and support their local communities.

David Bellamy, who is also Club President, uses the assessors’ reports (and any comments received from members of the public) to make his award choices each year. Three levels of excellence can be achieved: Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Bob Hill, the Club’s Sites Director, said: “As a Club, we are dedicated to providing greener holidays and we hope our Camping in the Forest and Club Sites’ achievements demonstrate this.

“We hope our awards continue to inspire holidaymakers to enjoy an inexpensive break in some of Britain’s most beautiful countryside.”

The David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme is one of the longest running green tourism awards in the UK and is a joint partnership between the Conservation Foundation and the British Holiday & Homes Parks Association.
