The Camping and Caravanning Club’s presence at the Royal Show captured the interest of over 200 farmers wishing to diversify – possibly by setting up a Certificated Site (or 5-Van Site) on their spare land.

There are over 1,200 Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Sites in the UK. Under this scheme, the Club issues a certificate to landowners, enabling them to operate as a campsite accommodating up to five caravans or motorhomes, plus tents, without local authority approval.

All landowners need, to stand a chance of qualifying, is at least half an acre of fairly level and well-maintained spare land, with a water supply and waste water drainage. They also need to provide a chemical toilet emptying point and suitable facilities for rubbish disposal.

New site applications resulting from The Royal Show are now being assessed and processed. Providing they meet the above conditions and access is acceptable, they could be up and running as camp sites within three months.
