I started camping in 1947 with my parents and older brother – I was seven at the time. We had three pre-war cottage tents, borrowed for the first year, and straw palliasses. My parents joined the Camping Club (as it was then called) so I expect we used Club Sites. In those days the only facility was a water tap.
