Jane Austen Trail Tourist board Visit England has branded 2017 as England’s Year of Literary Heroes with a major anniversary at the top of the calendar. On the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s death her home county of Hampshire is set to celebrate the author’s life in a big way, with a series of events continuing until the end of the year. The Jane Austen Trail comprises two urban walks around her local town of Alton, as well as the village of Chawton where her final eight years were spent in an unassuming cottage, producing some of her best work.
