Many of us would love to go back to nature while camping but in modern life many still enjoy watching the television, using a computer not to mention other electrical devices. We therefore have a choice – either don’t take them, go to locations that have an electric hook-up or consider other sources of power. Add in the additional cost of the campsite electric hook-up and there becomes a serious argument for an alternative source of power such as a solar panel. If you only camp in the summer when the sun stays high you could consider a fixed roof-mounted array. This doesn’t require any set-up but you need to remember to keep it clean. However, for flexibility and ease of avoiding shade, the portable option was best for us. Another advantage is this can be easily transferred to another unit and we can leave it at home if it isn’t needed.
