Basecamp wins design award
The Swift Basecamp caravan has won the coveted Red Dot Award for design.
The ‘crossover’ camping vehicle, designed by the Yorkshire-based company and released in 2016, has bagged the prestigious Red Dot Award for the high design quality of its interior.
The Basecamp is designed with climbers, cyclists and other outdoor adventurers in mind. It was among 6,300 entries from 59 countries that were considered for an award this year. A panel judged them on innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics and durability.
It’s much smaller than a regular caravan, yet still manages to pack in a kitchen and washroom, and comes with an optional inflatable awning to increase the living space.
Chris Milburn, Swift Group’s Design Director, said the award shows there’s an appetite for innovation among leisure vehicle buyers.
He said: “With Basecamp we completely reimagined the caravan. Our designers were tasked with thinking outside of the box to develop a product that would complement life’s adventures – from the mountainside to the lakeside.
“The smaller interior space demanded real creativity from our designers – and this award commends their efforts.”
