Highlands Council to trial motorhome overnight par
The Highlands Council is to trial overnight motorhome parking at 12 of its car parks during the summer and autumn.
The plan will allow self-contained motorhomes to occupy a designated bay for a maximum of 24 hours, with no return within 72 hours
The car parks in the trial are Torvean in Inverness; Nairn Harbour in Nairn; Dunnet Head, Dunnet Seadrift, Noss Head and Reiss Beach in Caithness; Riverside in Wick; Durness Village and Golspie Shore Street in Sutherland; and Ullapool Latheron, Gairloch Harbour and Little Gruinard Beach in Wester Ross.
Malcolm MacLeod, Executive Chief Officer for Infrastructure, Environment and Economy, said: “The Council recognises that ownership and rental of motorhomes and campervans has grown exponentially in the last three years and is an increasing trend… It is hoped that by introducing legal use of designated Council car parks for overnight stays that it could relieve some issues on the public road network.
“The Council has… identified locations suitable to pilot a self-contained overnight stay, where people can park and stay overnight in the vehicle.”
Visit The Highland Council website for more information on the pilot scheme.
