The Club has retired as a partner in Camping in The Forest (CiTF) and will step away from its role in managing, operating and promoting the network of 16 campsites located in national forest land in England and Scotland.
It has sold its controlling shareholding of 72% back to Forestry England and Forestry and Land Scotland – the land managers that the Club had partnered with on the venture.
The move means the Club can focus on operating Camping and Caravanning Club Sites and providing associated products and services to Club members, while Forestry England and Forestry and Land Scotland can separately manage future national forest camping offers.
As part of the deal, the Club will continue to operate all 16 CiTF sites until 30 November 2022, ensuring minimal disruption to campers who have booked or planned to book a CiTF holiday this season, and a seamless transition to the new owners.
The Club initially started working with the Forestry Commission in 2006, investing in Forest Holidays. In 2012, the Club exited Forest Holidays and entered into the CiTF partnership, focused on touring campsites.
Club Director General Sabina Voysey said: “Over the years, the Club has made a significant investment in growing the CiTF brand. We’ve driven consumer awareness resulting in increased turnover and profitability, which allowed us to develop and open Sherwood Pines in 2021.
“However, CiTF campsites are used by less than 5% of our members and so, following a detailed review of the direction of CiTF with our partners, we’ve taken the decision to focus on the Club’s core purpose, to help members make the most of our great pastime.”
“We have committed teams on site for the 2022 camping season and we are proud to be leaving the business in such a strong position, knowing that the new owners will continue to deliver great experiences on CiTF sites.”
