Labour and OIA get active outdoors
The Club’s own Simon McGrath joined deputy leader of the Labour Party Tom Watson (above) as he climbed Snowdon in May to launch the Adventures 4 Health campaign.
It was the first of four adventures that the high-profile politician will attempt during 2019 to promote getting active outdoors. The campaign is being run in association with the Outdoor Industries Association, of which the Club is a member.
Mr Watson has already lost seven stone and reversed a type 2 diabetes diagnosis by dramatically changing his lifestyle, and will follow summiting Snowdon with canoeing in Birmingham, cycling the 46-mile Prudential RideLondon and completing a half-mile open water swim in London’s Hyde Park.
Mr Watson commented: “Through Adventures 4 Health, I want to show other people what is possible as an individual and how easy it is to access so many different activities, in every part of the country.”
