Young member strikes DofE gold first with the Club
Camping and Caravanning Club member Hannah Patrick has become the first person to attain the Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award Gold Certificate through the Club.
A geography student at the University of Liverpool, Hannah was struggling to find an organisation to help her achieve DofE gold, after already attaining the bronze and silver awards. It was then that dad Vaughan – a Club member for more than 16 years – suggested completing the award through the Club.
Hannah said: “I’m really happy to have completed the award and it’s fitting that the Club enabled me to do that as we have had so many happy family holiday camping memories over the years.”
The Club is licensed as an operating authority of the DofE Awards and the scheme naturally follows on from skills learned in Camping Club Youth.
Hannah added: “The DofE Award is fantastic and has already given me so many great experiences like sailing in the English Channel and even looking after elephants in Sri Lanka, which was part of my Gold Award. It is something that helps you develop as a person and tells future employers something about you that no other qualification can – it really makes you stand out.”
