Dometic buys Kampa
One of the UK’s best-known tent and awning brands Kampa has been purchased by Sweden-based Dometic in a cash deal said to be worth about £50 million.
Dometic – a name that will be familiar to many campers thanks to its refrigerators, hygiene, climate control and heating systems, and safety products for caravans and motorhomes – claims the deal will help it significantly broaden its retail offering in Europe.
Juan Vargues, President and CEO of Dometic, said: “I am pleased to welcome Kampa and its employees to Dometic.
“Kampa complements our product portfolio and strengthens our global offer to make Dometic even more relevant to our current and future customers.”
Based in Essex, Kampa was founded in 2006 and since then has enjoyed steady growth to become a key players in the tent and awning market in the UK, with sales worth an estimated £40 million in 2018.
Kampa Manging Director, Myles Salmon, said: “We are today the market leader in inflatable awning room and tent technology in the UK, with a clear focus on easy use for our customers. In Dometic, we have found an incredibly good home where we can build and accelerate our international expansion.”
