Looking to extend your camping season without breaking the bank? Then read on.
Being a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club has its advantages including the exclusive opportunity to enjoy extended camping meets or Temporary Holiday Sites (THS) in beautiful locations all around the country.
So, what can you expect?
If you’re familiar with the magazine’s Out & About pages you’ll have noticed how many events fill the THS section.
Characterised by their low fees, THS campsites are well-organised by District Associations, Special Interest Sections and Regions, are family-friendly and often strategically-sited. Many run for three or even four weeks and some are held to coincide with a major event nearby, such as a regatta, air show or concert. And as always, you can be sure of a warm welcome in true Friendly Club style. We’ve rounded up 5 THSs around the country. Take your pick!
Please note: Only Club members are allowed entry to Temporary Holiday Sites. You can join the Club online, or by calling the Membership Department on 024 7647 5442.
12-19 September
Keswick Club Site, Cumbria
We thought we’d throw this one in – you’ll notice it’s held at Keswick Club Site. Run by The Boating Group – a Special Interest Section of the Club that enjoys exclusive boating access and an active social programme. Those who enjoy messing about on the water will enjoy this week-long meet in the glorious Lake District, complete with social programme.
22 August to 9 September
Batemans Brewery, Lincolnshire
Fancy a beer? You’ll be well-placed to try a few from the historic Batemans in Wainfleet if you pitch at the brewery’s peaceful campsite with the friendly bunch from East Midlands Area Motor Caravan Section. Not only can you enjoy tours of the brewery, including their on-site shop, you can also dine in their bistro or prop up their bar.
18-23 September
Knavesmire, York
If you like to combine your interests, head to York for an assortment of events – beer, food and vintage vehicles - within close proximity of this handy THS, run by Leeds DA. It’s easy to reach York’s centre on foot or by bus. The Beer Festival runs 19-22 September; the Food & Drink Festival from 21–30 September; and Knavesmire Classic Vehicle Rally is 23 September.
17 August to 2 September
Wolseley Bridge, Staffordshire
For those who enjoy a spot of fishing, there's still time (just) to join this North Staffordshire DA meet which offers the chance to relax in the picturesque setting of Carney Pools coarse fishing centre. Located on the outskirts of Cannock Chase, the site has a six-acre campsite with the added bonus of showers and toilet facilities.
15 September to 6 October
Newquay, Cornwall
If you’ve been waiting for the summer crowds to disperse before you head for Cornish shores, now’s a good time. East Essex DA is running a THS at Porth Beach Touring Park – a great location to access Newquay’s great beaches, town centre and beautiful coastal walks.
