Overview

Camping near York doesn't get much better than Sheriff Hutton.

The historic city of York is just a few miles from our pretty Sheriff Hutton Club campsite and the North York Moors and the coastal towns of Bridlington and Filey are within easy reach.

Our immaculate, well-manicured tree-lined campsite offers a tranquil base from which to explore the local area. It has 85 grass and hardstand pitches and modern facilities including a parent and child wet room with a baby change station, sink, top and tail bowl, toilet and shower. There are also laundry facilities, a small play area in the centre of the site with swings, a slide and climbing section and a small site shop.

The local village of Sheriff Hutton has a post office, two charming pubs, castle ruins and a point to point race course.

With Roman, Viking and medieval heritage, York has much to see and do. York Minster, the Yorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum head up the list. You can also take a boat trip on the River Ouse and join a walking tour.

Great family days out include Creepy Crawlies - an indoor/outdoor adventure play centre with café – on the outskirts of York. Flamingo Land at Malton combines animals and theme rides and Monk Farm near Thirsk is full of cuddly animals.

The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington is based on a World War Two Bomber Command Station and Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum is housed within an original Prisoner of War Camp.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Lovely clean site, however we thought the description "dog friendly" a little misleading.

Lovely clean site, however we thought the description "dog friendly" a little misleading. There was nowhere to walk the dog except the neighbours field, he allowed this at his discretion. It was full of rabbits and along a really busy main road. Not ideal we couldn't let our dog off the lead, and I know lots of other owners were in the same situation. The "dog walk" was a fenced off patch about the size of my lounge. If we had known we would never had gone there. The warden was apologetic about the facilities, but it was what it was .The site itself was lovely, close to York and other attractions. We enjoyed our short stay, but won't be returning .

On Arrival a Very friendly and warm welcome, shown a selection of pitches.

On Arrival a Very friendly and warm welcome, shown a selection of pitches. The site was a lovely size some 80 units and very well laid out. It was very quiet and peaceful except for a couple of days with the constant thump drone from a neighbours music box (it was turned down) The site pitch was lovely had a tree nearby for some shade, easy to peg out the awning in to the grass. Facilities were spotless and kept very clean indeed, and the very helpful manageress and team. TV reception was ok, But the site WIFI internet service was awful I had to stand next to the site office to get the site wifi signal which was not comfortable as we paid for a full year of WIFI. Hopefully this will improve. It is a good location for the area but local shops bus servive not so good . We shall certainly return and recommend to others. Its nice and quiet and restfull.
