    Overview

    With stunning views, sweeping sandy beaches, abundant wildlife and a dramatic coastline, our Dunstan Hill Club Site is situated in an area famed for its beaches, birds and castles.

     

    Located just a mile from the Northumberland Heritage Coast, this rural campsite is a restful base from which to explore the famous “castle coast”.

     

    Bordered by trees and offering a mix of hardstanding and grass pitches, Dunstan Hill is a spacious and mainly level campsite.

     

    From the campsite, take a pleasant woodland walk to the nearby coastal village of Craster – home of the kipper.

     

    A short distance north, Dunstanburgh Castle sits proudly, the backdrop to the glorious, sandy expanse of Embleton Bay.

     

    The imposing walls of Bamburgh Castle overlook the Farne Islands, the summer home of more than 100,000 pairs of breeding seabirds and a colony of grey seals.

     

    Lying south of the campsite, Alnwick Castle is probably best known for its role as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter film series. Home to a giant holly serpent and some of the world’s most poisonous plants, the castle gardens is a fantastic day out for anyone interested in horticulture.

     

    Take a trip to the picturesque fishing port of Seahouses or try your hand at watersports at Beadnell Bay.

    Worth Noting

    • Dedicated area for ball games and a play area.
    • Ask at reception for information on local attractions.
    • Bus stop directly outside the campsite to explore the local area.
    • Mobile phone reception is poor.
    • SatNav from south may direct you to Dunstan Village, ignore turning and follow road to Embleton.
    • One facility block will be closed on 25th September from 10am until 6pm for essential works. The second facility block will remain open.

     

    Eat Local

    Craster, home of the Craster kippers, is an hour's walk from the site, as is The Ship Inn in Newton, which serves beer from its own micro-brewery.

    Local area

    Dunstanburgh Castle

    Sitting isolated atop a natural wall of rock in Craster, Dunstanburgh Castle is one of England’s most impressive ruined castles. Constructed in the 14th century, this castle was damaged during the War of the Roses.

    Alnwick Castle

    Second only to Windsor Castle in size, Alnwick Castle is a magnificent stately home and recently attracted much attention due to being featured in the extremely successful Harry Potter films and Downton Abbey series.

    Farne Islands

    This cluster of islands was famously labelled by broadcaster Sir David Attenborough as his favourite place in the UK to see nature. In the summertime, 150,000 seabirds flock to the island, including rare puffins. The islands are also inhabited by a colony of grey seals.

    Bamburgh Castle

    Reputed to be haunted by the ‘Pink Lady’, Bamburgh Castle is one of the oldest forts in the country. The original fortification was destroyed by the Vikings in 993AD before it was rebuilt by the Normans.

    Holy Island of Lindisfarne

    Marooned off the North East coast and only accessible by causeway at specific times of the day, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne is a small yet mighty piece of Northumberland's heritage.
