Overview

Camp at our secluded site in Kent, the Garden of England.

Our Oldbury Hill Club campsite is located in an idyllic spot within Styants Wood, opposite the Iron Age fort of the same name in Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is a lovely open, all grass campsite. Pitches are sloping so chocks will be required.

The area is ideal for walkers. Two way-marked circular walks pass over Oldbury Camp, the large Iron Age Hill fort. The hill is now covered with woodland managed by the National Trust. You can also walk from the campsite to Ightham Mote, a medieval moated manor house with a 14-acre garden and restaurant.

It’s a short car journey to Knole, a National Trust run English country house set in a deer park; Penshurst Palace and Gardens; the National Trust run Chartwell, family home of Winston Churchill; the beautiful Emmetts Garden and Hever Castle and Gardens.

You can also visit London by train from Borough Green and Sevenoaks stations.

Access and Worth Noting

Savnav users please use Styants Bottom Road, not postcode.
Most pitches are sloping and chocks will be needed. TV reception now has good signal. Due to narrow access road, please do not arrive before 1pm. All campers must vacate by 12pm.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Eat Local

Chart Farm, five minutes' walk from site, sells venison, pork and beef. Farmers’ markets are held weekly in Shipbourne and fortnightly in Tunbridge Wells. Crown Point carvery/restaurant is recommended.

We were 3 families with 3 kids and stayed at this campsite at the end of August and I would NOT recommend this campsite under no circumstances! The manager on site was extremely rude to us and acted like a terrible bully. One of our kids had a tantrum at 8pm in our first night and was crying loudly. The parents were dealing with the situation by having the kid with them at their campervan. The manager walked over to us telling us we need to control & manage the situation and sort it out ! He then insinuated that if we cannot make the child stop we will have to leave ! He told us that he needs to be seen to be doing something although admitted than no one complained. He stayed at our tents making his point across aggressively. I do not wish to take threatening parenting tips from anyone , especially as we were dealing with the situation. Although the site has relatively good reviews due to its cleanliness , if you scroll through you will see that there are several reviews referring to this aggressive manager , especially when kids are involved. Instead of enjoying our weekend and letting our kids have fun I was constantly asked by my son- ? mummy is the governour going to shout at us?? Which is not what you want! The manager never apologized to us for his behaviour.

Beautiful site in an opening in the middle of a woods, lovely and light location and the grass was beautifully kept. Facilities were clean but I would imagine cold in winter, not really an issue as your camping! Site is on a gradient so chocks and ramps will be needed, quite nice to actually use them :-) owners were very friendly, saw we had kids and gave us a nice pitch overlooking the park

I thought of giving this site just one star, hoping to keep others away from this absolute gem.

I thought of giving this site just one star, hoping to keep others away from this absolute gem. Ok, it's not perfect - some of the pitches slope a bit (but I've known far worse), and the facilities blocks aren't the most up-to-date (though they are perfectly adequate, and spotless) but it IS perfect in its wooded seclusion, with those blocks hidden away in the trees, all looked after by the most welcoming and accommodating wardens you could hope to meet. If there were six stars available, this site would justify the lot.
