Overview

This is a Certificated Site (CS). These select sites are small, privately run campsites that operates under the Club’s jurisdiction and can only accommodate up to 5 caravans or motorhomes and up to 10 trailer tents or tents, unless express permission has been given by the Club to accommodate more. They range from secluded Hideaways to fully facilitated family friendly sites, and are often found in locations where larger commercial sites are prohibited so you could be camping close to a beach or in the National Park, for example.

The well-spaced pitches are equipped with electric hook ups and water. There is a chemical disposal point and waste bins are provided on site. We allow well-behaved dogs so long as they remain on leads at all times. Dog owners are required to ‘clean up’ and to ensure their pets do not disturb other campers. The site has wide ranging views especially to the north and east. Sunrise over the Downs can be most impressive for the early risers! If you walk south for 0.5m to the cliff at Barnes’ high you will see spectacular sunsets to the west beyond Tennyson Down and the Needles. There is a comprehensive network of local footpaths. Many visitors choose to abandon their vehicles for the day and set out on long circular excursions. It is surprising how far some of them have gone.

A wonderful CS located on the quieter, west side of the island but within easy reach of Freshwater, Yarmouth, Newport and Ventnor. We spent a blissful two weeks here and couldn't have been happier with our choice. In fact we already have decided to return next year. Each pitch has it's own water tap so make sure you bring the appropriate equipment with you and you won't have to keep filling up aquarolls!! Mr Russell (the site owner) was extremely pleasant and helpful and often came around to make sure we were happy. One word of warning: Don't follow SatNav directions. Continue along Military Road past the Isle of Wight Pearl Centre (on your right if coming from Freshwater). There will be a sign on the left hand side of the road which leads to a grass track across a field to the site.

This is an extremely well run CS set in a beautiful location and ideal for anyone who enjoys country/ coastal walks, cycling and fishing or just relaxing in peaceful setting with wonderful views. The village of Brighstone is a mile away and Mr Russell has mown a path direct from the site to the footpath. He has also made access to the coastal path along the stunning Military Road easy from the site. Brighstone is pretty village with a grocery shop, post office, newsagent, pub, gift shop, library and church. This CS really is a place for young and old, you can go in any direction and find plenty of interest for all ages. It's an excellent base for exploring the island. Each good sized pitch has electricity and water. We thoroughly recommend it.

Fantastic site! Large mown pitches.

This review is for Thorncross Farm

Fantastic site! Large mown pitches. Water tap per pitch which is great for long stays in a Motorhome. Stunning views. Great walks. Peaceful. This is the best site we have ever visited. Great for anyone looking for a peaceful, rural holiday location. Absolute peace except for birdsong. Stunning views and excellent walking from the site. The owner even mows a route to his clifftop bench for guests to enjoy the sea views along the south east coast of the island. Well done Mr Russell and thank you for a great holiday. We found it very hard to drive away from such a perfect place.
