Overview

A secluded campsite in rural Essex, near both the coast and the city.

Our pretty Kelvedon Hatch Club campsite in the heart of leafy Essex serves those campers seeking the excitement and attractions of the capital as well as those looking for a relaxing break on the Essex coast.

This 90-pitch campsite is secluded and peaceful and has a really rural feel. All forms of camping is catered for here with a range of facilities including a parent and child room, children’s play area and an excellent dog walk.

The pretty village of Kelvedon Hatch – best known for its once-secret nuclear bunker, now a museum, is close by. Also close is Brentwood, with Mountnessing Windmill – a restored, working post mill – and Old MacDonald’s Farm, a leisure park aimed at children. You can also catch a train from the town to London – buses to the station stop half a mile from site with trains leaving every 10 minutes to the city.

For some beach action, head to Southend. Three Shells, the town’s most central beach, offers easy access to Adventure Island, the Pier and numerous shops, cafes and amusements. Also try the Blue Flag, dog-friendly Canvey Island Beach in the Thames Estuary and the Blue Flag Sandy Shoebury East and Shoeburyness Beaches.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Worth Noting

Some grass pitches are sloping. If coming in from Brentwood do not use satnav. Follow A128 to Ongar then follow brown camping signs.

After a 10 night stay here we were left with mixed feelings.

This review is for Kelvedon Hatch

After a 10 night stay here we were left with mixed feelings. The site was peaceful and several elements were very good - the amenities block was well maintained as were the extensive grounds but a few niggles remained a daily annoyance. In particular, the lack of glass recycling facilities and more importantly, the lack of rubbish bins anywhere other than at the distant site entrance. In our experience this is definitely not the jewel in the Club's crown.

I couldn't have wished for a better first solo trip out in my caravan.

I couldn't have wished for a better first solo trip out in my caravan. I had spoken to the staff before I arrived as I was quite apprehensive about my first trip. But I needn't have worried as the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly and I was shown to a perfect pitch (although there are no bad pitches). The site and facilities were extremely clean. Although quite secluded it is only a short drive to the town. As a first time tower, I found access to the site fairly easy. Highly recommended for a peaceful few days away.

Lovely site friendly welcome. Was shown to our pitch . Facilities very nice & clean .

Lovely site friendly welcome. Was shown to our pitch . Facilities very nice & clean . Only thing was there are contractors staying on site not all followed the one way system . And one was very rude when we were hitching our van up to leave we blocked his way for a short while and he didn't want to wait . That spoiled it for me a bit . The vans are placed on the edge of the road and all your water and bins are in the middle which is a good idea but it would be better if there was a path way leading to it because the grass was very wet and muddy . Having said that I would recommend this site and I would go back again .
