Linger a while on this friendly campsite in southern Scotland.

Moffat is our Club campsite in the Scottish lowlands. It’s an ideal stopping off point for journeys through Scotland. This pretty Victorian Spa town is just three minutes off the M74. But Moffat is much more than just a pit stop, its idyllic location more than warrants a longer stay.

The 180-pitch Moffat campsite boasts a fine setting in a wide valley surrounded by magnificent scenery. The well laid out site has a good range of well-placed facilities catering for all campers needs.

If you choose to linger a little longer in the area, the town of Moffat is a great place to start your exploration. Just a five minute walk from the campsite, the town boasts one of the broadest high streets in Scotland. Here you'll find the fountain topped by the statue of Colvin Ram, the famous Moffat Toffee Shop and the Star Hotel which appears in the Guinness Book of Records as the narrowest hotel in the world. Moffat also offers a variety of shopping including a weekly market on Fridays and a monthly producers market.

Nearby Station Park offers a  variety of attractions including a boating lake and gardens. Next to the campsite the Hammerlands Centre has a garden centre, cafe and fishery.

The town holds an annual walking festival in October and from the campsite you can access some of the finest hilwalking in the south of Scotland. Also close by is the Grey Mares Tail, a magnificent waterfalldropping 200ft from Loch Skene.

There are also a number of historic houses and castles in the area. Drumlanrig Castle near Thornhill - Scotland’s oldest inhabited house - contains artwork by Rembrandt and Da Vinci and has wonderful landscaped gardens and woods. Medieval  Caerlaverock Castle is located close to nearby  Dumfries.

Nice staff very friendly, show you right to pitch.

Nice staff very friendly, show you right to pitch. Site is well kept and the toilet block was spotless. Just a two min walk into the town with pubs and shops. Just outside site is a pizza place just small wooden hut but its a real wood fired oven. I would say if you are at pitches down bottom of site better to have own toilet as its 100m to toilet block and when getting old that's far at 3am lol. My friends and I are already planning a return trip.

Appears at first sight to be a depressingly large site but is in fact a remarkably quiet , calm and peaceful one. Spotlessly clean and tidy. A credit to the staff. Very handy break of passage point.

Entry to the site had initially taken a bit longer than we'd expected, however in hindsight, lunchtime on a bank holiday Saturday was always going to be busy. The staff, although clearly pushed, were very welcoming and helpful. It was good to have a choice of a few pitches. Once we'd decided, staff accompanied us to the pitch, making it clear exactly where we'd to pitch (almost to the centimetre !!). The site is a very short walk from town and the local park with boating pond. There is also a Co-op shop, 5 minutes away, just in case you need to top up on supplies The toilet/shower block was always kept clean and showers were great. The good weather certainly helped matters and we spent quite a lot of time meeting our neighbours on surrounding pitches, particularly if they had a dog with them, I think our niece knew every dog by name by the time we left. We'll be looking to return to the site in the future and would encourage others to come along.
