Overview

Discover Dorset's beautiful beaches & surrounding area from our Moreton campsite.

Dorset’s beautiful beaches, heath and downlands are all accessible from our Moreton Club campsite located in the heart of Wessex and surrounded by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Our 120-pitch site is open and spacious with a good range of facilities, including two amenity blocks, a small children’s play area and a dog walk.

Moreton station next to the campsite is on routes to Weymouth, Poole and Bournemouth and the bus stop, half a mile from site, will take you to the pretty county town of Dorchester where you can enjoy a number of walking trails including the Thomas Hardy trail and the Roman Town Walk. The town’s Borough Gardens has tennis courts, a bowling green and a children’s play area and hosts a number of events through the summer including live bands and a teddy bear’s picnic.

Head to the sleepy village of Moreton and stop off at the Tearooms, situated in the old school at Moreton for a cream tea. Thomas Edward Lawrence, popularly known as “Lawrence of Arabia” is buried in the church here. A more elaborate memorial can be found at St. Martins church, Wareham.

The village forms part of the “Lawrence of Arabia Walking Trail. The walks take in Bovington, Clouds Hill, Moreton Church and Lawrence’s grave.

Attractions in the area include the Tank Museum at Bovington, Monkey World Ape rescue Centre in Wareham and Lulworth and Corfe Castles. For the best beaches, head to the circularLulworth Cove, Kimmeridge Bay – great for rock pooling and swimming – and the blue flag beach at Swanage.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Worth Noting

Two holiday bungalows to hire and mobile phone reception is poor. Site campers receive 50% reduction in green fees at Dorset Golf and Country Club. The Frampton Arms (next door to site, offers campers 10% discount on food, Sunday – Thursday.

Nice site but train noise very obtrusive although we kind of got used to it. It did restrict sleep though. Not sure that would stop me going again as a well maintained site that was generally very clean and the site staff very friendly and helpful to the extent that they came round about 30 mins after showing us our pitch to check we were OK. Being able to have paper available nice touch but 9.00 a bit late for breakfast. Local pub nice if bit expensive. Fish and chip van useful but food not great, perhaps too big menu. Caught train from station only 3 mins walk to Dorchester which had some nice shops and a good museum of local prison. Then did Swanage railway. I like steam trains so good trip and stopping off in Corfe very worth while. Last day went to Lulworth castle and bay, the castle in particular was worth a visit.

From the warm welcome on arrival to great and friendly service throughout our stay, the managers and their assistants excelled. Nothing seemed too much trouble, and they went the extra mile to accommodate our request. The site is mainly flat, and well sheltered by deep belts of trees. The shop is well stocked, and the facilities spotless. The only minor grumble was from the females in our group who would have liked more privacy around at least some of the hand basins, hence 4 rather than 5 stars for that aspect.. All in all this site was a perfect base from which to explore the coast, woods and heaths of Hardy's Wessex.

Just returned from a very enjoyable stay here at Moreton, on arrival had a choice of several pitches. Staff were able to advise on where sun is in relation to pitch. A very friendly welcome. Site is across the road from the station so trains horns can be heard as they approach the crossing. There is a regular service hourly through to Weymouth or Poole and beyond (ideal if not gonna drive). I found many others to also be using the service. Site was easy to find via sat nav. Pub next door is a bit pricey and dated but meals are fresh. Fish and chip van comes twice a week didnt use but seemed very popular. I was pleasantly suprised when setting up to find two deer, one being a young stag had wondered onto site having jumped the fence. They were reasonably tame and are apparently regular visitors. Dawn chorus is also a wonderful sound. My only suggestion for improvement would be is that showers are a bit crampt and only 5 for ladies across the site and with it being hot weather they were in use alot, but lovely continuous hot water. The other niggle though it didn't impact upon me as such because I wasn't using my car is that where I was back against the fence when the site is full as was this weekend there is no designated roadway opening for vehicle access so sort have to get through spaces between the hard standing pitches where wider where the front row bends around slightly. I look forward to going back.

“Moreton is a real favourite of ours and we have been going there for years. Moreton is brilliantly run and extremely clean. It has a real community feeling and the grounds are always splendid. Over the years we have recommended many and it too has become their favourite.”
