Camping near the lovely moors and beaches of North Devon.

Our Umberleigh Club campsite in the Taw Valley is surrounded by rolling hills and meadows and is close to the moors and beaches of north Devon.

A quarter of a mile from the campsite is the village of Umberleigh. Here you will find an art gallery, an antique shop and a local pub. Umberleigh is also one of the stations on the picturesque Tarka Line which runs between Barnstaple and Exeter.

For clean, sandy beaches and surfing head to Westward Ho, Saunton, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe and for family days out there’s the factory outlet Atlantic Village and Atlantis Adventure Park, Bideford, The Milky Way, The Big Sheep and the Quince Honey Farm.

Great site in the very rolling North Devon countryside.

This review is for Umberleigh

Great site in the very rolling North Devon countryside. All the amenities you would expect and some you wouldn't ( games/TV room, fishing lake ). Pub/ hotel half a mile away but very steep walk back and not suitable for physically impaired. Train station (Tarka line ) just a bit further on with hourly service to Exeter and Barnstaple. Recommend hiring bikes at Barnstaple Stn and cycling the Tarka Trail. Also visited during our stay Tintagel, Bideford, Clovelly, Appledore, Exeter and Ilfracombe (all recommended). Excellent weather during our stay, which always helps, but would definitely come back. Must also give a big thanks to the site management team. Angie, Paul and Clive couldn't do enough to make our stay one of the best we have had at any club site and we are sure would make you welcome too.

I found the camp site to be in a peaceful rural location.

I found the camp site to be in a peaceful rural location. Handily placed for the beaches of North Devon and the South West Coast Path and Exmoor. Woolacombe,Croyde Bay, Saunton Sands, Braunton, Barnstaple, Bideford and Westward Ho! are all within easy driving distance. Umberleigh has it's own railway station and Barnstaple and Exeter can be accessed quite easily on the Tarka Line. The Tarka Trail runs from Braunton to Meeth via Bideford and Torrington and all 31 miles can be walked and cycled. The staff, Angie, Paul and Clive, were always cheerful and friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble. The amenities were always spotless and clean. There is a large area for dog walking, a lake for fishing, a games and TV room and even a skittle alley! Great if it rains I imagine. Pasties and sausage rolls can be ordered on site delivered from a local bakery. The "Cod Father" fish and chip van visits every Tuesday evening. There are Pannier Markets in Barnstaple, Bideford and South Molton for those who like a good browse. So the site is great for those who have physical activities in mind, or just laying on the beach or indeed just chilling out and relaxing. I would recommend this site to anyone just looking to do any of the above, and I intend to stay there again in the future to continue walking the South West Coast Path as well as relaxing. Excellent site, well done!
