Due to winter road damage a stretch of the A379 main coast road from Strete is currently closed. Please use the A379 from the Torcross direction.

A family site with sea views and sandy and shingle beaches within walking distance.

Our Slapton Sands Club campsite has all the ingredients for the perfect family beach holiday. Located on the stunning South Devon Heritage Coast, our Slapton Sands campsite commands a quiet, rural setting. Lined by trees and flanked by rolling countryside, this is the place to sit back and enjoy the views - some pitches enjoy fabulous views over the bay.

The campsite is level and well set out with some hardstandings and plenty of grass pitches. There is a children’s play area, a parent and child room, washing up facilities and a short dog walk and the small on-site shop provides the basics.

Off-site there are plenty of coastal walks to enjoy including to Beesands and Hallsands. Slapton beach is a few minutes’ walk from the campsite. The shingle beach and clean, calm sea are ideal for families (dogs are welcome too) and water sport enthusiasts can enjoy surfing, windsurfing and canoeing.

The freshwater lagoon Slapton Ley is separated from the sea by Slapton beach and is set within a National Nature Reserve. The area is teeming with bird and wildlife. There are many walks and trails around the reserve.

To the north of Slapton Sands, the Blue Flag Award-winning Blackpool Sands awaits. Backed byevergreens and scented pines, this stretch of golden sands has a real mediterranean feel.

A bus stop a quarter of a mile from the campsite is on routes to Plymouth, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth. The latter is a wonderful medieval town with a lovely harbour, perfect for crabbing, and a castle.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Worth Noting

A maximum of eight caravans are allowed on site for members only. Please ignore the ‘Slapton 5 miles’ sign off the A381. Slapton village is unsuitable for large or towed units – follow route recommended on map.

Eat Local

Farmers' markets are held weekely, Stokeley's Farm is nearby and the site shop provides essentials and local produce. The Queen's Arms and The Tower Inn are both a 5 minute walk from site and serve excellent serve food and real ales.

This is a quiet, relatively secluded site, in a coastal location.

This review is for Slapton Sands

This is a quiet, relatively secluded site, in a coastal location. I found it to be very clean at all times and the four staff were very friendly and extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The A379 was damaged by "Storm Emma" in March this year and is closed just beyond the Slapton village turn off. Access is therefore only possible from Kingsbridge (Not Dartmouth!) for motorhomes and caravans or through the lanes if you are brave with a smaller vehicle. This may be more of an issue come the summer months, but you shouldn't let that put you off staying at what is a jewel of a site with great sea views. The site is also great for bird watchers at Slapton Ley, a five minute walk away, and access to the South West Coast Path, also just five minutes away. There are two good pubs in the village of Slapton and another good Inn at Torcross, the Start Point Inn which does great fish and chips! Midway between Plymouth and Torquay, this site is ideally placed for exploring the South Hams. I would highly recommend it for a relaxing break away from it all.

Feeling sorry for the site wardens....lovely helpful friendly couple...given an unfinished site to run...new hardstands not wide enough...the camp road again not wide enough...grass verges chewed up..Red mud everywhere not helped with the rain...we only have a small 2 berth caravan and a car but couldn't fit both on pitch.. First time to the site...not sure about a return..but may have to come back at end of season to see finished site...but with tent and not caravan.

Despite my booking of the wrong weekend, the site team were very friendly and helpful in resolving the issue. (this may not have been so easy in high season) The site is a few minutes walk from the coast path and from the charming village. It made a great base for our coastal walk with great pubs/food along the way. In summer the beach at Slapton would be fantastic for families. I would highly recommend this site but imagine it gets quite full / busy in summer.

We followed the recommended route and although it did narrow to a single lane with no road markings on occasion, it wasn't too much of a problem. Just such a long way around but it has to be done! The welcome was probably the best we've ever had at a Club site. Fabulous. We had been thinking of not renewing our membership next year but the crew here restored our faith. Beautiful spot, lovely views but very open to the elements and exposed. So much so we cut our intended stay from 9 to 7 nights because we couldn't face the wind any longer. Perhaps we're wimps but the storms were nasty! Facilities are as you would expect from a club site, clean and well kept however the shower area is looking a little dated and could do with sprucing up. Nearby are lots of lovely walks and Slapton village itself is a delight. Thoroughly recommend the local pub! Great value meals and huge servings. Lots of other really lovely places to eat in the area at Torcross and Beesands, including tea shops and a little further away Dartmouth, about a 20 minute drive to the park and ride, which we used several times and do recommend. Dartmouth is a lovely town and there are lots of boat trips etc available. If you're after peace and quiet then this is a good site. It's worth the effort of the drive, just wish there was a little better shelter from the winds!
