Camp in the heart of the National Forest with walking and cycling from site.

The National Forest covers 200 squares miles, embracing some of Staffordshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire. It’s a place to enjoy a variety of activities from forest walks and gentle cycling to horse riding and fishing. It also encompasses numerous attractions from Calke Abbey, the National Brewery Centre, National Memorial Arboretum and right at its heart, Conkers visitor centre offering a Discovery Centre, sculpture trail and an assault course for teenagers. It’s next door to this award-winning attraction that you’ll find our popular Conkers Club campsite.

This well thought out campsite has hardstanding pitches off a large roundabout and plenty of grass pitches for tent campers. The all year round site offers full facilities and has a separate ball game area and an overnight car park. There is an on-site dog walk and plenty of walking and cycling opportunities direct from the campsite including the Ashby World Heritage Trail – a three and a half mile route following the old Ashby and Nuneaton Joint Railway.

If you'd like to go glamping then Conkers Ready Camp is the perfect choice. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

We arrived late in the evening in the pouring rain and found it difficult to pull onto our pitch. Luckily, the Warden who was attending us, got his 4x4 vehicle and pitched our caravan. Unfortunately, we also had a problem with our jockey wheel, and, again, the same Warden was kind enough to get it fixed for us. We were very grateful for the help and assistance we had, to ensure that our holiday break was stress-free. We were also informed that because we are situated near the Conkers Discovery Centre, with proof of purchase (ask for a receipt), children go free to this attraction, which is well worth visiting - regardless of the weather! There was also an Easter Egg hunt, and the kids had a wonderful time participating in this too. I can't stress how friendly and customer focused the wardens are here, the amenities are good and well attended. I would thoroughly recommend this site and would definitely return here soon.

We loved this site for it's lovely views and it's close proximity to miles of countryside walking. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. The site itself is very well kept and the toilet and shower block were always kept clean and tidy as indeed was the whole site area. We'll definitely stay here again. Directly from the site you can walk for miles through the local woodland areas or head for the old Ashby canal at Moira furnace which is less than a mile away from the site. From there you can walk along the tow path to Donisthorpe and beyond without walking on a road. Just over an hours drive (35 mile) away is Dovedale in the peak district National park and the lovely village of Ilam. Well worth a trip whilst staying at Conkers club site. In the other direction about half hours drive away is the Bosworth battlefield. For walkers our tip is to park at Cheney wharf and walk up the canal to the old railway line that leads to Shenton station . Then over the battlefield site to the Bosworth visitor centre before the final walk through the woods to where you started. 4 miles of easy walking and a real treat.

Our jockey wheel collapsed on soft ground when we arrived and staff immediately rushed to help us. Very impressed when they lifted the front of the van to allow us to . Hard to put our rock pegs into new hard standings. Once in, they kept popping out
