There is a separate tent camping area, backpacker facility, a family camping area, children’s play area and a 4* rated pub restaurant The Whistling Pig.

There are many walks from the campsite. Across the fields is the village of Staveley as well as a shop, supermarket and a couple of pubs the Hawkshead Brewery is here too. There are more walks to enjoy from the village including Potters Fell and Reston Scar.

Bowness-on-Windermere offers plenty of water-based activities including cruises, canoeing and wind surfing and attractions including The World of Beatrix Potter and Aquarium of the Lakes. We stayed over the bank holiday weekend so the site was very busy; however the wardens were unfailingly helpful and friendly. The shower blocks were a bit dark and unwelcoming at times and the floors were often wet but that's not meant to be a major criticism. We found the location a bit remote as we are in a motorhome and once on site don't like to move the van during our stay. You can walk to Staveley across the fields (map from reception) but its not for everyone. I'm in my 60s and pretty fit but found a couple of the stiles (badly maintained) a bit of a struggle. Its a lovely quiet, relaxing site but too remote for us. As others have mentioned the pub on site doesn't allow dogs - I think they're missing a trick as we took our money down to the pub in Staveley, which was dog friendly, for a meal on two nights. I was sad and disappointed by some of my fellow campers: I came across fresh dog faeces on the grass areas and paths on four separate occasions and someone had left an open carrier bag of cooked rice/food waste on the ground by the waste bins - there was room in the bins to put the bag in and keep the food away from vermin. This is a member's club and I find it hard to understand why people wouldn't want to keep in nice for everyone.

Great site, most ptches are nice and level with water facilities close by. The showers were clean and tidy and warm, with the middle block being the hotter showers. The kids loved the play area. Only 10 mile and 15 mins from juction 36 of the M6 so easy to get to. 10 mins drive from Windemere and Bowness. Will hope to use the site again Cracking site.

Just back from a long bank holiday weekend, great weather at 23c Grass pitches were in good condition, the site is well laid out and maintained and the staff are excellent, very friendly & helpful, we would definitely go back again The only thing to be aware of is the difficult road exit turning on to a very fast 3 lane main road to Kendal

We have been using this site for many years.

This review is for Windermere

We have been using this site for many years. Although peaceful and well laid out, it is now suffering from the lack of a badly needed overall, particularly of the facilities and size of the hardstandings. The shower block is in urgent need of renovation: the same shower & toilet cubicles have the same hooks missing that have been missing for 4 or 5 years. Try showering on a cold spring morning with a cagoule, jumper, shirts etc plus toilet gear & only one or two hooks. Suggest a visit to Caravan Club site at nearby Meathop Fell to see what really good facilities are. Also, the inclusion of non-camping types in yurts & ready erected tents only leads to bad behaviour (noise/speeding) & further degradation of facilities.
