Having loved this site 8 years ago when we had a caravan on camp and store it was the natural choice for our maiden trip in our motorhome (Elvis) as we recalled it having reasonably easy access, level pitches and extremely helpful staff. However having read some of the recent reviews on here I was dreading the trip! I am delighted to say the site has not changed one bit, the staff were equally as friendly and helpful as they always were, especially Jo who was just wonderful with help and advice. The site was spotlessly clean, immaculate toilet and shower blocks and we had a lovely pitch (hard standing with EHU) on the mound 48. No TV signal but we didnt care. We cycled to Windermere and Kendal and enjoyed beers in both the new micro brewery, Handsomes in Bowston, and Hawkshead Brewery in Staveley and the welcoming, sociable hospitality in the Whistling Pig. Met some lovely people and all in all had a fab 3 days away.

We arrived and had selected a grass pitch when booking on line.

We arrived and had selected a grass pitch when booking on line.(Would have selected hardstanding had I visited the site previously. Unable to change pitch as all the hardstandings were occupied. Weather was wet and we were grateful to the help given by the wardens to control the mud in our awning. The on site restaurant was excellent, good value for money, and excellent food. we ate there three times in the eight nights we were there. The main road is a long way from the site, and it is necessary to drive to visit anywhere. The wardens were friendly, helpful and never seemed to stop working.

My wife and I stayed here from 1/9/18 for 7 nights and sadly accepted pitch number 163 which is the furthest from the entrance and next door to all the 'ready camp' tents. I have to say that these RCs have no place on C&CC owned sites. On both weekends the occupants arrived early evening often in groups and within minutes the kids are running riot, kicking footballs whilst the parents all have bottles of beer or glasses of wine in their hands. Loud chatter from the adults lubricated by the alcohol and noise from the kids go on late into the night. Talking to one of the cleaners I was told that they were frequently left in a disgusting state with dirty pots left and rubbish strewn all over. I would recommend the site in general but never again would I accept a pitch close to the RCs! The facilities were kept clean, the staff friendly and helpful and all in all apart from that one corner the site is extremely pleasant. I cannot comment on the pub as we have a dog and they are excluded, which to me is a very strange rule when looking at the number of units with dogs.

The site is far from friendly.

This review is for Windermere

The site is far from friendly. We arrived early evening after a days work and a 3 hour drive with 2 children. We put footprint for tent down and man came and said its too big not what you said!! The thought of going home was awful and friends who are members had invited us to stay on site with them This stern man strode up and down and said I really don't know. He went off and came back 15 mins later and said we could stay but just not a good start. The site was not full and they could have moved us to give us a bigger pitch but didn't, we even offered to pay more than the 50 a night we had already paid! Anyway facilities okay but you have to pay 20p to dry your hair!! Showers miles away from tent I used hand drier! Toilets closed first thing in morning for cleaning crazy, first morning I asked where other toilets where abd got told have you not looked at your map! Attitude just awful, not a nice feel to site at all.
