Pitch on the shores of Lake Windermere and explore the southern Lakes from this site.

Braithwaite Fold campsite sits on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere in the heart of the beautiful Lake District and is a stone’s throw from the linked towns of Bowness and Windermere.

Pitch here and you won’t be short of things to do. For starters you can enjoy the many attractions of the lake right from the campsite. Enjoy a steam cruise or have a go at dinghy sailing, power boating or windsurfing. Meet Peter Rabbit and friends at the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness on Windermere.

Catch the chain ferry to the western shore for the National Trust’s Claife Heights, ideal for walking and cycling, the pretty village of Hawkshead - home to Hill Top where Beatrix Potter once lived - and Grizedale Forest Park with its Go Ape high wire adventure area.

Fell Foot Park at the lake’s southern tip is perfect for picnics and paddling. Near here you’ll also find the Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway and the Lakes Aquarium.

Worth Noting

Due to site restrictions only one car per pitch is allowed at any time and no boats are allowed on trailers. Drive-away awnings cannot be accommodated on most pitches – please contact site. All service pitches are hardstanding and rock pegs required. Poor TV reception.

We had stayed on this site when it was run by the Caravan Club and looked forward to our holiday for months. Oh, what a disappointment! Overcrowded is an inadequate description - two metres between our van and the awning next door is 4 metres less than the 6 metre rule! (Pitch 11). I do not wish to look at the side of my tow vehicle from the van windows, all because it had to be parked in front of the van, not alongside, as conventionally happens. Because this rule is applied to ALL tow vehicles the whole site looks like a gypsy encampment. We had booked for a week and were glad to leave - a longer holiday and we would have cut our losses and left. Looking at old photos, we are under the impression that extra pitches have been added creating a less attractive and safe site, the website photos are misleading, imagine a car parked in front of every caravan when all pitches are in use and most are using an awning!!!!!!!!! Not for us, thank you, we've cancelled our membership!

Our first stay on the site has been really good and we are looking forward to Christmas when we are back for 2 weeks. The site Managers & Wardens were really helpful & approachable Great location as we knew as we have stayed in the lakes for many years. Good pitch and pretty level at the far end of the camp away from the shower block which suited us. See you soon.

What a brilliant site.

This review is for Braithwaite Fold

What a brilliant site. Well sited with close proximity to a lot of facilities you can exit site from both ends by foot either way you can access restaurants, pubs, lakeside facilities. To the north side which is the entry to the site approx 10 to 20 minute walk takes you to lakeside facility, shops, restaurants and a Cinema. Ok the site is not that large but is well maintained. Wardens were friendly and polite.
