Pitch on the shores of Lake Windermere and explore the southern Lakes from this site.

Braithwaite Fold campsite sits on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere in the heart of the beautiful Lake District and is a stone’s throw from the linked towns of Bowness and Windermere.

Pitch here and you won’t be short of things to do. For starters you can enjoy the many attractions of the lake right from the campsite. Enjoy a steam cruise or have a go at dinghy sailing, power boating or windsurfing. Meet Peter Rabbit and friends at the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness on Windermere.

Catch the chain ferry to the western shore for the National Trust’s Claife Heights, ideal for walking and cycling, the pretty village of Hawkshead - home to Hill Top where Beatrix Potter once lived - and Grizedale Forest Park with its Go Ape high wire adventure area.

Fell Foot Park at the lake’s southern tip is perfect for picnics and paddling. Near here you’ll also find the Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway and the Lakes Aquarium.

Worth Noting

Due to site restrictions only one car per pitch is allowed at any time and no boats are allowed on trailers. Drive-away awnings cannot be accommodated on most pitches – please contact site. All service pitches are hardstanding and rock pegs required. Poor TV reception.

Eat Local

We do not have a motor home service point. We do have a small dog walk on site.

On arrival I found the staff welcoming and friendly.

On arrival I found the staff welcoming and friendly. The location is perfect being so close to the lake and Bowness Centre. I had an issue with the electrics on my van, but the staff were able to resolve the issue in minutes and were super helpful.

I have rated this site highly before, and even though there has been a change in personnel, this site is one that keeps the high standards that I like to think should be attained at all club sites. The toilet block is kept very clean by the staff, who even undertake quick mops and tidy ups during the day. The site may be a bit cramped in places, but you never feel as though you are on top of one another. TV reception isn't the best, but when you're in the lakes, why watch TV? Recommend a torch if going out at night as it can be very dark coming back due to overhanging trees at the entrance. Local pubs are dog friendly, other than the Hole Int Wall where they have to stay outside. Would suggest that when arriving, follow the clubs directions and not sat nav.

Very efficient and well run site. Managers and other staff could not have been more helpful.

Very efficient and well run site. Managers and other staff could not have been more helpful. Quick check in with all the necessary points covered. I had written ahead to ask for pitch with clear view south for the sat TV. I was called by Sheena and this was all taken care of and suitable pitch reserved. Facilities spotless and water was very hot as the signs said. Site a 10 minute walk into Bowness so good location. Many thanks to all and enjoy the month the site is closed off for.
